Like he wouldn’t get in the top 3 out of our defenders at finishing. Baines, Coleman and Dean the rest haven’t been in the box enough to know so he could be further down.

Yeah man it sucks that we have a 1 in 2 striker leading the line these days.

I like this kid my friend. He possesses the athleticism you can't teach. The coaches are on the clock for me.

Not surprise at all because his finishing in training usually awful.
He worked so hard but his final passes never found his teammates as far as I remember.

I like him but sometimes don't like his performance lol

That was probably about as confident and composed as I've ever seen him play.

Granted, he was up against Championship players, but there was a time not too long ago where it looked like that could be his maximum level.
He looks excellent atm. His all round play is really good. I’m looking forward to seeing how he develops.

Currently he's a similar player to Troy Deeney at Watford. Strong, athletic player who uses that to bring the others into the game.

Since the start of last season they've both been involved in 22 goals, although Deeney has played 13 less games.

Like Deeney, DCL plays better alongside a striking partner who benefits from DCL's hold up play, work rate and "bullying" of opposition defence.

DCLx Deeney.webp

If he was playing in a top four side with service he would be scoring most games - our service to the front two again was pathetic- Rhico did far less last night - no wonder - No midfield Bernard inept - Iwwobi fair dos 2nd half came good then we looked a bit more dangerous - Harry Kane could not feed of those scraps .......

You are aware that he's literally two away from 15 right? And that Lukaku who you keep going on about, and who was clearly a great player for us, had topped out at 18 when he was Dom's age. Rom had been playing first team football since 17 too.

Sometimes you should appreciate what we have.

he said “ regular 15-20 goal scorer” so not just one purple patch. DCL has been playing for us for 3 seasons so since he was 18 I think. His shooting is cack and that’s going to be the reson he’s not going to be a good goal scorer .

True, he was a little wasteful at times today but what I was encouraged by is that he is now looking to take on a strike at goal whereas at the start of the season his first thought was always to look for the pass. I would rather him pepper the keeper with a few tame ones if it means he has the right mindset when a higher percentage chance comes along. All the best forwards are a bit selfish and they should all be greedy bar stewards! I'm optimistic for the lad and I was a doubter historically.

the best forwards may be selfish , but, they’re usually good at shooting too .

Dunno bout great tonight. Did ok. Heading was poor. Got to fill your boots against a side like them.
A lot of time for him now though.

I know they’re bottom of the table but they’ve beaten City and us this season and played really well at Anfield. There’s no easy games in this league at all .

The knives are back out again I see.

I bet the usual suspects were doing windmills seeing DCL not score or play particularly well. Sad really, but it says a lot about their character.

If he’d had the sharpness and confidence of before break he could have easily bagged a goal a game with his header against Liverpool and the one against Norwich. They’re a fraction away from two goals which is understandable given he’s head three months without football but the key point is he’s still in those positions to score. People knocking for not scoring in two games back from lockdown is ridiculous when he was millimetres away from scoring in both.

A lot of people won't like this, but it's a decent comparison.

I'd say that Calvert-Lewin is much more mobile than Deeney, but he's similar in that he's better suited to doing the legwork for a more natural goalscorer.
