How many of those names you’ve mentioned have hit 15 goals in a season (in top tier English football).

We’ve worshipped strikers in the past who havent even made single figures season after season yet we’re knocking a lad who’s hit 15 in a team that doesn’t create chances.

But you're using a small sample size.

Even if im being fair and using just this season - he has been found wanting at the start & end of the season and was only scoring in a patch in the middle third between around December - February.

People say I have an agenda against DCL yet im one of the only ones who's judging him as fairly as possible - over his entire tenure of the club whereas those desperate to make out he's better than what he is are using the 15 goal stat which was largely scored in a period of about 3 months of the season under 2 new managers.

Look at Roms goal tally over his 4 years or so at the club - 1 in 2 or thereabouts - but I bet you could find a patch of about 10 games where he only scores about 2-3 goals but using that stat to suggest he wasnt a top striker is as disingenuous as using Bambi's 3 month purple patch to suggest he is good enough.

I mean Michu scored 25+ goals for Swansea one season - was he a world class player or just a 1 season wonder?

But you don't ever consider the fact that DCL was signed as a youngster, he wasn't signed like Lukaku to be our main man up front. He was played out wide for the majority of his early appearances for us, even at right wing back!

Year on year Dom's stats have got better as he has got older (as usually happens with youngsters when they are developing)

If next season he goes back to scoring single figures then maybe you would be right about it being just a purple patch.

But I dont get why you don't seem to comprehend or want to acknowledge the fact that he is a young player and his stats year on year have been improving, he is still in the upward curve, and if his development carries on in the same way then he will hit between 15-20 goals next season

He's had a good season and deserves his spot in the team. More room for improvement still.

He doesn't seem to understand this logic mate. The DCL we got this season is the best DCL we've seen, so it stands to reason that he's improving.. yet we need to look backwards as well for some reason? great that lol

This is the first time we have had two or more players score 15+ goals since 1986-87.
In that season

Heath, Sheedy and Steven each scored 16.

That’s 32 from the wings!!!

We need to keep DCL and add a free scoring right winger and left winger or CF(depending on where Richarlison is played).

I really don't get it.

If DCL had played 5 full seasons for us, only hit double figures in his 3rd, then gone back to single figures in his 4th and 5th, I would understand the criticism.

But it is bizarre to rant so negatively and consistently about a player who is quite obviously improving year on year and is undisputably having his best season to date

it’s simple for me. On his efforts this season he deserves a starting spot next season. If he can’t keep up his form then he gets dropped. Same for every player. Then we will have our answer if he’s a one season wonder or not, but writing him off before he’s even had a chance to prove it either way won’t answer anything.

He's got 13 league goals this season

Just had a gander he started off with 3 goals in 15 = poor return

Then got 10 in 10 under Dunc and Carlo and went on a mad spell

And has now gone 9 games without even looking likely to score

So what youse are saying is a striker who turns up for 1/3 of the season is boss?

He shouldn't be sold and desveres to be in the squad but I would get a better striker in if we could myself, a sick spell in 10 games over his Everton career isn't enough to change my mind

No, literally nobody is saying that.

We are saying that a young striker whose numbers are improving year on year (that is fact not opinion) deserves to be given the benefit of the doubt instead of written off.

He undoubtedly has a lot of things to improve on, with his finishing being one of them. But to write him off at the age of 23 as just a 3 month purple patch is ridiculous IMO. If next season he hits single figures again I will eat humble pie but all of the signs suggest he is developing and progressing each year

This is all people are saying really.

Thats fair. I'dalso add though, we've had 1 striker in 25 years who's regularly scored 14+ league goals per season. We all want another one, but they don't grow on trees. He's just not our biggest priority currently, you want to improve every position but there's an acute sense of priority for me.

The defence (or 3/4 ofit) looks ok for me. Midfield needs an overhaul. If we can do that over the next 2 windows and Calvert Lewin is still at say 13 league goals a season. Our midfield doesn't make chances for poeple. It's why Tosun and Kean had 1 goal each. They are poor. Put Bardy, or Ings or whoever in front of that midfield and they don't get many. Most DCL chances he makes for himself.

Not writing him off pal, but 1 good spell in what 4 years isn't good enough for me to think we go another year as him starting as our main striker

For what it's worth though i do think he will be given another year to find some consistency

I don't have any huge concerns over DCL.

Of course a few goals would have been great for him, lets hope he nets on Sunday.

It's asking a huge amount of a relatively young player to score with any regularity in this team.

He will never be on Richarlison's level but he isn't that type of player anyway and doesn't need to be.

His pace, physical aggression, and workrate are good enough.

We just need better players behind him, and he will score enough to compliment a more traditional striker.

Are you really going to judge him on his first few seasons, when he was a teenager, playing on the wings or even at wing back? Very harsh IMO.

What kind of numbers did you expect him to be hitting in those seasons? Its very very rare for an u21 player to consistently perform in the prem.
