Massive year for him now, Euros around the corner and he now has proper quality around him

For his sake and ours lets hope this isn't his purple patch but the start of a great season

Exactly. He's still learning. Hopefully now he can do that without the impatient jeers and derision of pasty virgins behind their computers
Haha pasty virgins class!! He's just said in his interview that the first match ball from the hat trick against West brom is still in his car I bet someone like Salah sits there pulling the head off it thinking how great he is

The problem was he was our starting CF and wasn't winning us points.

That wasnt his fault and was more down to crap recruitment like not securing Giroud etc but you cant expect fans to worship a player who was bang average just because they were young otherwise people are out of order for criticising Davies.
Why would you slag off the player if it was down to crap recruitment?

*frantically deletes historic DCL posts*

Look I have no problem with criticism of players. We all do it, we've all gotten things right and wrong. But it's the lads with an almost obsessive agenda constantly posting vitriol about young players that irks me. Nobody is going to be vaulted for saying DCL had a bad game a couple of times.

@davek :coffee:
As I said "I'd love to be wrong about him".

He's making progress on that score.

I have always believed. We are so impatient with young players because we think they should follow a trajectory of Rooney and he was an anomaly, most young players have to grow into first team football. His first goal tionight was a coming of age goal for me!
His first touch was unreal for his first

Why would you slag off the player if it was down to crap recruitment?

Because he wasn't good enough.

Same way people slate Davies, Pickford, Siggurdsson week in week out.

We all do it its just some of us are not self righteous and go round goading others and accept if a player earning more in a week than fans earn in a year are not performing to the standard required then they will get slack regardless of age/position.

Im made up he's doing well and hope he keeps it up as its obvious he's put the effort in the training ground.

The scary thing is that he’s nowhere near the finished article, he improves year on year and he can still improve his finishing a lot.
His best attribute is the fact you know he wants to improve, you can tell he works hard and even when he was getting dogs abuse he still had a smile on his and got on with it.
If he can minimise his wild finishes and become even more clinical then there is nothing stopping him. He’s come along way in 2 seasons, hopefully in another two he’ll be even better.

He was crap years ago

He's developing into a top striker now

I'll happily admit that.

What im not admitting is that he has always been boss when 2-3 years ago he couldn't control a ball and was scoring about 4 goals a season. Anyone who claims otherwise enjoys rewriting history to troll certain posters.

As I've said im calling Kean boss now and Carlo is a fool not to play him - you'll all see in 2-3 seasons time!

What a lot of people said though was that they could see he had the raw attributes to develop into a good Premier League striker and was worth keeping hold of given he was around 8 years from the traditional "peak" period of most strikers.

Other's claimed that he was a terrible player who would never amount to anything which suggests that they don't understand the fact that percentage wise very few young footballers look anything like the real deal in their teens or maybe their very early twenties when playing senior football against top flight sides. The improvements that can be seen in many players as they hit their early to mid twenties is quite startling. If you dismiss and look to get rid of young players who aren't freaks like Rooney or to a lesser extent Barkley and you'll potentially lose a lot of talent.

And for the record I'm on the same page with Kean - Watch him and and look at his qualities rather than concentrating on mistakes and shortcomings and it's clear that there's potentially an excellent player there. But it does take time, patience and an acceptance of the fact that progress is very rarely a steady ever-rising path.
