Oh you were quite happy slating him ........anyway I don't soonest him @Nymzee does you are a joke of a DCL ridiculer.....
If you don't know what chance do the rest of us have hahaAnyone help with this one ?
Well it came across like you were deliberately misrepresenting the point to make it sound ridiculous, when all that was being said was he needs to add more to his game to be a genuine top class striker. I don't think it's a controversial view at all, he's really good at the moment, but there are levels and currently his is below the very best. For a team in our current position that's fine, if we have ambitions of competing at the top then it's probably not. Sticking with Aguero, he's probably the perfect example of what I was getting at in terms of the comparison between him and Jesus. Jesus is a tap in merchant who's good for 20+ goals a season, but Aguero is the player with the fear factor, the one you're terrified to give half an inch to because he'll punish you. There's no comparison between them as players for that reason. It's not about saying DCL is rubbish because he can't do what Aguero can do, it's about saying he needs to add more strings to his bow to get into that top bracket. I think he can, and I think it's clear that it's something they're working on, because in the past he wouldn't even be taking on chances like that one last night.
I didn't mean someone who scores less in the sense that you're talking about Lukaku. Swapping someone scoring 25 goals for someone scoring 10 is not good. I'm talking about the possibility that someone scoring 20 goals but from all different situations may be better than someone who scores 25 from inside the 6 yard box. Also I would really disagree that DCL's all round game is far better than Lukaku's. He works harder, he's better in the air and his back to goal play is better (certainly than when Lukaku was here, although it's come on a lot since then) but there are other areas where Lukaku was streets ahead. It became fashionable to make out like he was a useless lump who just scored a few but in his last 2 seasons he got 43 goals and 13 assists in the league. Since the start of last season DCL has 23 goals and 2 assists. As I said, if he doesn't add different goals then he needs to add more assists. Laying the ball off on the halfway line is great, but there's a bit more to having a good all round game than that.
Wouldn’t surprise me if joey had him mixed up with Lawrence llywelyn Bowen to be honestAnyone help with this one ?
All comp including International goals, is he on 18 !?!
Yes. 16/2
But again, i'm not saying we need to get anyone to replace him! I don't know where you're getting that from at all, i'm not even hinting at it. I'm saying he is a very good player who has scored lots of goals and that's great, but I think he needs to add more to his game. I think we're slightly limited by the fact that he doesn't really score or assist unless we deliver good quality crosses into the box, and things like us changing the back 4 to get Coleman and Digne in (something I know you didn't like) is probably a direct result of this, as we feel it's necessary to get wide as much as possible in order to get any goals. I'm really not criticising the lad at all, just saying what I think the next step for him is. It's not about being the perfect player, it's just about having a bit more to his game.It certainly wasn't deliberate on my part to misrepresent ny point, but hopefully the clarification cleared that up?
I have sympathy that he probably wouldn't quite be good enough technically to play at the very to level. The issue is, we are not there. I'd also say, outside of Godfrey and to a degree Digne I'm not sure anyone is either there or has that potential either. I am torn on Richarlinson, he is a bit unusual and has lots of skills but not quite sure if he's polished enough and seems a little temperamental to me.
I am very open to discussing DCL's weaknesses (though I'm a bit fan) but it is legitimate to ask who else could we get in that's better. I'd say it would be very hard for us to attract such a player. I mean, the 1985 team was not filled with world class players, but a number of very good ones who worked brilliantly together. Outside of Alan Ball you might say the same about the 1969/70 team.
It' sort of exemplified with the Aguero/City point. Yes Aguero is much better, but City will walk the league, and will walk the league this season with Jesus up front. So clearly you can win the league with a Jesus/DCL type player. We an certainly meet our short-medium term objectives with DCL.
I suppose one aspect I disagreed with is that it's not acceptable he can't kick the ball well, which was not entirely what I said. It's just not a strength, he can clearly kick the ball well, but scoring goals from distance isn't his strength. I don't expect someone to be a fully rounded player, but if their overall numbers are good, thats good enough for me.
Re Lukaku, I probably agree. I was always a big Lukaku fan and he was probably underrated here. He was never a thoroughbred either though, but he was rounded in different ways to DCL (technically far superior and made better off the ball runs). He's a good example too though, you could say he doesn't have a right foot, or doesn't score enough headed goals for his size- but he does lots of things positively too. Lukaku's 25 goals outside of penalties in his final season, from an Xg of around 18 was enormous for us getting to 7th and 60+ points.
So what would you do with Dom? I mean I'm a big fan, but can see sense in moving him on. He's not of an age where he will become the perfect number 9.
His close control, hold up play and distribution are not the best either. If he could improve all these skills he'd be a great player. The issue I have is you have the likes of Bielsa and Leeds coming out feeling shortchanged they never got a draw, if he finished his couple chances you would not hear a peep out of them, it’s not just this game aswel, it’s happened plenty of times this season.
He deserves credit for his heading but with his feet, he cannot strike a clean ball
Doesn’t have an assist either, no wonder Richy is walking round with a gob on himHis close control, hold up play and distribution are not the best either. If he could improve all these skills he'd be a great player.

Best way of summing him up in my opinion is that he always seems hurried with the ball, never relaxed and comfortable in possession, I wouldn’t say he panics but he needs to trust in his own ability a lot more and be more in control of himself. His close control, hold up play and distribution are not the best either. If he could improve all these skills he'd be a great player.
