2020/21 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

He's not really had a rest all season. Even last twenty when we are winning, because the games have mainly been tight. Looks tired to me.

I thought he was very poor tonight. I also thought that the Sky pundits were very poor, by being overheard
laughing at DCL about his inability to score goals from more than 9 yards out.

....he scores goals but he’s not a goalscorer per se. As I always say, when he has a chance ‘I hope he scores’ as opposed to ‘expecting he scores’.

it’s similar in the air, he’s a beast getting on the end of crosses but Richarlison is a better header of the ball.

Richarlison has a picture in his mind of where he is and where the keeper will be, DCL doesn’t have that ability as yet.

Agreed. But I wouldn't write him off from improving next season.

He is quality, you can see it in his movement, control and all round play. We have a front two who can share the goals for first time I can remember since Sharpy and Heath, so lets hope we hang onto both of them.

It was the host Dave Jones , doesnt ever seem to give any credit to Everton.
And he was very wrong about DCL.

But thats ok with me , he just shows what he is ....a smug fool.

He's allowed the odd poor game - probably his first one this season.

Link up play/touch was off, and that probably resulted in him snatching at his chance.

It's right.

I kind of get this. Kind of.

He isn't a natural finisher. But, he has - this season especially but also last season - improved his positioning a lot to make sure he gets tons of goals from being in the right place at the right time.

He was tonight, but snatched at the chance.

I'm really not worried one bit (I know you're not suggesting that we should be).

Players have little dips. DCL has hardly had one and is being used every three days, full throttle, and it's not like he's getting loads of service like he was earlier in the campaign (that should improve as James comes back in, hopefully).

The 4-3-3 system is still the best way to get the most out of the attackers we have. But we need a steady midfield of Davies-Doucoure-Allan I think to really give the front three the freedom to play, and getting Richarlison driving in from the left inside-forward role to mean he's not out on the wing.

I wouldn’t say he’s personally any better with positioning now than in previous years he’s just been told to play more in the box than ex managers.

Even back in the England U20 days he’s always been brilliant at getting chances it’s just tucking them away.

Okay, good point. But he definitely has improved that ability to kind of sniff out a chance. That's probably as you say more from being told to stick central so he hasn't got as much ground to make up to get on the end of those drilled crosses into the six-yard box.
