2020/21 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Still a work in progress! But there is definite obvious progress. He turns 24 Monday so he is still young-ish and not fully grown yet. He has 19 from 30 Lg and cup which is already a solid improvement on 15-41 last year and I predict more still to come. I'm not sure he will ever be ice cool in front of goal but he is quick and his instinct and awareness in the box as a Johnny on the spot type is a decent skill in itself, with all the hard work jostling and running defenders ragged, as he gets stronger and more self assured, which he will, it may click.
As he trains and plays more with, hopefully better players he will get better at what he doesn't do well yet because he can focus solely on those things and the older you get you realise there is no better way to learn than through experience. Plus he is learning from someone he has a very good relationship with who was a very effective player in his position and from a respected (cough) manager that likes him who before Everton broke him was a good manager. I wish I could say the same, but as far as Dominic goes...

Not sure why people are angry or surprised with DCL tonight, he's got an obvious skill set - fast, tall, strong and direct, he never has been or ever will be a 2 footed, close control, quick feet Augero type striker, tonight unfortunately we created a number of chances for him were some real panache was required to convert, he isn't that type of striker

We could have been 4-1 down at half time .......it's all ifs and bits with posters claiming DCL lost us that game.......

Carlo did say he was disappointed because we were not clinical enough.........to me that is saying we never took our chances. All the chances fell to our main striker. He executed one, missed a header (hit his shoulder) and miscontrolled several. If clinical we could have got something from the game and that is point Carlo is making. We complain about lack of service at times for DCL for his lack of recent goals then we get more chances in a game than we have had for a long time when a conversion of one of those chances was nowhere enough. Regardless of how many Burnely could have scored we should have had a minimum of 2 amd by my recollection a possibilty of 4 just from DCL alone. Poor day at the office for DCL and it happens but we do need to be 'Clinical'

We will be lucky to keep him next season ......
Why? You tell me one club that's going to pay 40/50m for DCL which is probably the min we would take for him?

No good team in world football even looks at him.

No Joey it's not the same difference because DCL didn't score a hatrick, he should have had a hatrick but he couldn't finish dinner. If DCL had scored a hatrick and we got beat 4-3 then obviously he wouldn't have been to blame unless he missed about another 9 golden chances.

DCL isn't solely to blame for yesterday because not a single player turned up, however, ultimately the chances tell to him and he fluffed every single one of them except one.

The club's expectations of him are unrealistic. He started last season rotating with Tosun, and now he's supposed to be the main man week in, week out.

He needs serious competition.

Just to play devils advocate here, but what is Richarlison meant to be? What is King meant to be? Didn't we sign Kean for this too? What is our understanding of major competition?

The reality is, he's a guy who's going to get 20+ goals in domestic comps this season outside of penalties. We have had 1 other player who's done that in 30 years. I'm not sure we are going to go and find another one just to act as competition.

Header in the 2nd half from Digne right foot was his bread and butter though, he panicked when it was easier to score

He's not, but he'll get better. I'm sure he's going to work on better finishing, his other foot, close control etc. He still won't convert to an Aguero type, but he'll definitely excel at his own strengths. One thing we can count on is that he works hard off-season.

Our defence defended far too deep if Burnley has gone in 4-1 up at half time if DCL had scored here and there all ifs and buts imo on the night we did not deserve anything .....
Another poor performance by the team v a relegation zone team .....that's 12 points thrown away .....injuries have not helped nor team formations either.....plus incorrect substitutions if he was that bad as some posters are saying why was he not subbbed?
