2020/21 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

The lad should be top scorer in the league the amount of chances he’s squandered in front of goal is madness. I know all players miss chances but I think his look worse for us because of the situations we find ourselves in.

He buries that one after half time and the game changes.

It was madness to let Kean go out on loan with no replacement. I wonder where we would be with him still here. He would have 10 goals+ and clearly works better in a 2, and have been playing on the right of a front 3 for PSG... exactly what we are missing.

Just to play devils advocate here, but what is Richarlison meant to be? What is King meant to be? Didn't we sign Kean for this too? What is our understanding of major competition?

The reality is, he's a guy who's going to get 20+ goals in domestic comps this season outside of penalties. We have had 1 other player who's done that in 30 years. I'm not sure we are going to go and find another one just to act as competition.
Richarlison and King are wingers, and Kean was an unproven teenager who left months ago.

I know you like to add in caveats (eg penalties) to backup your opinion that Calvert-Lewin is one of the world's top strikers, but as far as I'm concerned, league goals are the only fair barometer, and while 13 last season and 14 so far in this one are very respectable, they're not evidence that nobody could ever hope to push him for his place. If he had multiple facets to his game, maybe, but he's basically just a good target man / poacher.

No one is saying he should score every chance he gets that ridiculous.

Ill answer your question with a question. Name one "top" striker who cannot score outside the 6 yard box, cannot use his feet and 9 times out of 10 wouldn't back to score a chance with his feet.

I get the people defending DCL on here he has had a good seasosnbut I just don't get the fume and propa unwillingness to accept he's not yet a top striker when games like yesterday show exactly why.

But there are some saying "when you get chances you have to take them" which suggests they think he should score every chance.

" cannot score outside the 6 yard box, cannot use his feet"

20 goals from 2020 there. I've only watched the first 4 but of those there are two where he is clearly outside the 6 yard box and shows good technique using his feet. Which absolutely blows that particular nonsense out of the water.

I'm not saying he's elite level but you're literally making stuff up to dismiss arguments in his favour.

I think that was the problem. Ancelotti wants one central striker with a one wide player supporting the main striker and the other supporting the midfield. This would mean that Kean would be competing with Richarlison if he wanted to be the wide player that was also striker. He seemed ineffective off the bench so I don't think he would have been able to produce them figures. As a main striker he probably wouldn't have started either.

Hes been brilliant and is a top player. Yesterday was probably his poorest game of the season but he still scored.

Unfortunately we need him to be very clinical because the team are not performing well around him. Yesterday he had the chances but lacked quality.

The team players crap..... end of.....

Game changed at 1 nil 2 nil and when we (DCL) got it back to 1-2. Others need to step up. in scoring and defending.

And they will in time, lets face squad is nowhere near what it should be.

He had 3 great headed chances yesterday and scored 1. He also had at least 3 chances where he was played in on goal only for his control to let him down everytime. That's just not good enough. Those of you old enough to remember a certain Ian Rush from the pit will know he gets at least 4 goals yesterday with those chances. That's what a top striker does.

Are people saying he's a top striker? He's certainly not on the level of Kane or Salah, but he's on a par with Rashford, Abraham etc, which is certainly good enough to be starting up front for Everton at this point.

We don't have someone to replace him with if he's having a bit of a stinker which is a bit of a problem.

He's having a great season, let's hope he builds on this season after season; then we'll have a real player on our hands.

Lukaku aside, when did we last have a striker scoring like this? Yakubu? Sharp? Lineker?

No
I’ve said in previous posts that he isn’t the answer. Scoring tap ins every week doesn’t make you a great. I find him lazy and frustrating. He never gives the work load Richie does.
I can guarantee I know a lot more about football than yourself having worked in the game. I don’t post very often, when I post I post honestly which is my prerogative as a poster. Richies workload is 100 times better than DCL.
I am not doubting his goal scoring and the points he’s won us, but if I find a player I watch every single game, home and away lazy then I am entitled to say this. We would be worse off currently without him but he also should score and do more. If you asked me whether I would keep Rich or DCL I would choose rich every time.
i don’t post for reactions or to get childish bites, I’m nearly 50 years of age.
thank you and up the toffees
so you only post as a reactionary default, meaning the bulk of your posts are emotional responses to provocative situations such as losin at home to Burnley. Good to know . . . . Ignore.

Some people are describing him as world class. I'm not sure he can improve any more and if that's the case and we've got ambitions of being a top side I think we need better.
