The lack of competition for the strikers roll at our club is killing the job. DCL and Richie are probably the first 2 names on the team sheet each week irrespective of how they've performed. Jeez even Aguero, Martial and others like them aren't sure they'll be in the team yet these 2 need not fear about their places. Very unhealthy situation for a team muted as possible top 4 contenders. 2 proven strikers has to be a priority in the summer after the right back issue is sorted.

That's an issue that runs throughout the squad. The backup isn't at the level required.

Some positions we don't have a backup at all so have to play player's in positions they don't seem comfortable in or effects how we want to play.

Fair play to him, not hiding. He'll be fully aware that he needs to improve further it's not all about whether he can. Big progress this year but NEEDS to be doing so much more in one on one situations.
Lads like him and Davies are the first to hold their hands up when they know they have let themselves down. He's clearly a capable striker and the palace keeper had a worldie.

We sent two out on loan ....Keane & Simms both scoring for fun at lower levels.....

I'd agree to a point but for example Ifeel we have enough midfielders on the books to finally get 4 to do the business for us. Up front we have no options whatsoever.

No! no more time! sick of this crap, we're trying to do something here, not just provide practice matches for someone who is not up to scratch. How many more seasons do we write off as training seasons for Dom?
Okay mate in that case which striker do you propose we replace him with?

19 goals this season, only 3 in the league have scored more and they all take pens but it’s been a training season supposedly lol
Not saying he doesn’t have flaws l think he’s got a lot of areas to work on just saying he will keep on improving over time, it’s not like he’s useless like Beattie or Beckford or Jelavic (3 months excluded) or Jo or Tosun. He needs competition and we need different options in forward areas, and he needs to pull his finger out a bit now but wish we wouldn’t pile on our players if they go through a poor bit of form.

I would back DCL to improve again next season, because he has improved year on year. This year he added those clinical 1 touch goals around the 6 yard box that he has scored plenty of to add to his work rate and hold up play which are already excellent. His pace, strength, physicality and aerial ability are pretty much 2nd to none, certainly for any players we could attract/afford. So to say he needs moving on is just mental.

What he needs to do is focus on decision making and finishing when he has time. The chance yesterday in the 1st half should've been straight over the top of the keeper, he was on the edge of the box and the ball was bouncing. He doesn't seem to have invention or imagination, and that is an are he needs to work on.

Teams and opposing players should be terrified of his presence around the ball anywhere in a 30 yard radius from goal, like they would be with all the top strikers.

He is worth so much more to us than any fee we could get for him, and to find anyone to replace him would cost an absolute fortune.

Mate, he's been great first half of season, and I've been loving it same as everyone else. But those flaws in his game that you mention are HUGE, a striker that can NEVER finish a one on one is not a striker that I want leading Everton up the field. He's a great athlete which gets him in decent positions and allows him to get up for those ace headers, but it's not enough, the game itself and skill sets of modern strikers has moved on, a lot. At the moment he's one good half of o season in his entire career Come on man, I appreciate his effort and fitness, but to me he's a mid table battler, or bench striker for us next season.

So it's still a penalty then isn't it? And he's scored penalties for England.

Why I don't like the penalties stuff, is he could go to Spurs, take and score the pens Kane has, while Kane could be here, not take them (as Sigurdsson would continue too) and there would be about a 10 goal swing. They are the same players, but Kane's record would look way inferior to DCL's which would be stupid.
Everton would be a different animal with Kane in the team, and the idea that Sigurdsson would pull rank on penalties is ludicrous.

Kane's worst league returns are 17 in 28 and 18 in 29. Those would be career highlights for Calvert-Lewin.

It's an abstract point though to highlight the futility and limitations of penalties. I remember we signed Andy Johnson from Palace who had about 20 goals, 10 of them penalties. When he came here and suddenly didn't get or take penalties what happened? His goal tally reduced to 10 a season, which was the level of striker he was.

Harry Kane has an outstanding record with or without penalties. But the only difference this season is he plays in a team that gets given lots of pens and he gets to take them.

To be fair, you being pedantic about penalties is similar to my stance on league goals always being the barometer, so I think we're just both cranks.

Oh mate it is worrying his ability to finish those 1 v 1’s, I just think I’m willing to give him the benefit of time for another year to prove he can develop like. He proved he could score at this level last season, then proved he could back it up again this season which was big challenges. Next step is to show he can improve his composure in his play, just think he deserves the opportunity to prove he can. More defensive of him than I would be most strikers and I’m probs biased mate hahaha, I just watch so many strikers in this league past couple of years and think christ how bad is he hahaha (until they score their annual brace at Goodison in a 2-0 win)
