To be fair, you being pedantic about penalties is similar to my stance on league goals always being the barometer, so I think we're just both cranks.

Aye probably mate.

I'm happy to just measure league goals, but always had a bee in my bonnet about people who score loads of penalties being considered great goal scorers on the back of it (which is not Harry Kane for the record).

You mean Kean

By lower level do you mean to arguably one of the best 3 teams in the world.

Joey you're having a stinker here mate
The stand of teams are lower than the prem ......as he is now scoring this is the player that big Dunc when caretaker Manager subbed him after sending him on ........plus I don't stink :D

The thing I find most concerning is his work rate seems to have dropped off too in the past few games. When you aren't scoring regularly and a bit out of form then you need to work harder for yourself and also harder for the team. He was proper Bambi last night on several occasions.

I'm still a fan though but he's nowhere near a Harry Kane yet. I know a couple of spuds and they say Kane wasn't anything like Kane we know to start with but boy did he work hard to get there. He's your role model and template and Dom should follow that path.

He’s a Workhorse that’s has a purple patch in him now and again, problem is he’s stopped doing the workhorse side now along with the scoring bit. Just not top calibre quality
Do you want to add to our 140 million debt - he is the least of our worries we need a faster midfield plus a winger who can cross the ball consistently......

We all know good/great strikers are like gold dust and pricey too.

Just think of the progress DCL has made from a couple of years ago to now (when judged over a season) so if he makes anywhere near the same level of progress in the future we have a very very valuable player on our hands.

Improve the service to him and then judge in a years time is what i'm doing (whilst still calling him out from time to time)

The service argument doesn't work when you are played through the middle 1 v 1 in both halves.

Dom has already admitted himself he's very disappointed. It was nothing to do with service and just a lack of composure. He knows that himself.

He's the type who will definitely work and work to get better but yesterday was a concern because he didn't look like he was natural in those positions.

Yeah I get the 1 v 1 issue and that's not a natural part of his game so he needs to work on it. There are lots of other ways to score goals though of which he is more suited to.
I dont know of any striker who doesn't score more goals in general if the service improves. Score more goals -> increases confidence -> more likelihood a scoring a 1 v 1 as less pressure

Ever since those couple of niggles he got over Christmas and the fa cup game.. Not sure if it’s fitness, confidence etc. Is he on purposely doing it to avoid risk of injuries which would leave us bare? I think a lot of our play the past 3 months has been to protect the 14 or so players we have relied on massively, with games every 3 days. Got to a point we couldn’t afford anyone else injured at all. Now we tend to mostly have only one league game every week we can afford to press more, be a bit quicker and I think our performance was better for it yesterday. Either way makes the Kean decision annoying as we have needed someone else other than DCL, Richarlison or a half fit James to take the workload off them.
The work rate thing I’ve noticed too, sit there thinking these centre halves should be scared of him and Richarlison constantly harassing

Richarilison work effort still missed four easier chances some work ethos - spitting his dummy out like a school kid from a free kick that would maybe have been converted by a better freekick specialist cueing up even telling him give us the ball.......useless effort in a good position......so no - just blame DCL the pair of them missed chances ........
It's a team effort other players were just not at the races too.....?

Ideally, he would have been taken off after an hour last night (or at HT) when it was obvious it wasn't his night. However, we needed a goal so Carlo kept him on as our bench is terrible. I'd like to see us get another striker in that can offer some assistance in scoring goals, for when we have games like we did last night.

DCL isn't fit to lace Kane's boots, but not many strikers are; the lad is absolute world class. Dom is sufficient for where we are at, so long as we bring in another striker or 2.
