....no club investing a large sum would take a summary of 90mins. Watkins had a fine game but I’m certain Ancelotti wouldn’t swap him for DCL just as I‘m sure any top European team would take DCL over Watkins.

Nobody is going to change your view on this player, so it’s a bit of a Groundhog Day discussion. I like to think I see strengths and weaknesses in his game but it’s best if we agree to disagree.

He will do well if we can get a right winger, right back who can cross and some more legs in midfield. Then we'll get higher up the pitch and create more chances for him. He's scored a lot of goals this season considering how little we create a lot of the time. As for leaving, if I was Man Utd I would be looking at him, as he would dovetail well with the likes of Rashford and Greenwood, and suits their playing style.
Good analegies of Dom, he's making good progress each season and is maturing well, I'd rather he improved at this rate than crash and burn as the likes of Owen did.
We are fortunate to have him here and as others have pointed out we have far more to worry about elsewhere than him.
He's not perfect, who is? Shearer, Henry? These guys are like hens teeth and even they probably hit their peaks at about 27/28 so Dom still has time on his side to iron out his major flaw which for me is composure.
You won't change the mind of the odd ones on here who are obsessed with criticising our players even when they are making steady progress and are covered by other top manages and regularly in the international squad of one of the world's top national teams
We should enjoy him while he's here not be trying to hound him out.

The problem he has at the moment is no one else is scoring so suddenly he is expected to be a match winner on his own. Unfortunately his last 2 goals have counted for nothing as we lost both games. However if we had kept clean sheets in both them games the people who sway from one opinion to the other would have been lording him as a hero for bagging us the points.

We need to find a way to get more support in the goal scoring department and what he does might be appreciated. Or start keeping more clean sheets so his goals are winners more often.

Watkins didn't show anyone up mate. He ran about against two inexperienced young CBs. If you were in awe of that, then more power to you.

It's a beautiful fascination that our fans have the envy every other teams players even when one our own is doing well.

Top 5 under 25 year old goalscorers in Europe's top leagues:

Haaland (Bundesliga) - 25
Mbappe (Ligue 1) - 25
En Nesryi (Laliga) - 17
Calvert Lewin (EPL) -15

But yeah. He needs to learn from Watkins

Oh yer and Konsa and Ming's are the height of experience aren't they?

Why are you so blindsighted by numbers, he's got 15 goals it's a good return, its not amazing why do you think it is?

What major club in europe does he get in? You name one?

It you look over every premiership season, you'll say bang average players getting 13-17 goals all the time, it's really not that big of a number

Don’t think we’ve ever had a player that causes so much discussion every single day.
He's been one of the few positives this season and his thread is at the top everyday, Like someone else said if you wrote up a list of problems with this team he wouldn't make it.

Just celebrate him scoring 20 goals with such a dreadful midfield.

Fans keep saying James needs better players around him to show his true worth, doesn’t that apply to many players including DCL.

....I’m absolutely certain City and other major clubs in Europe are considering DCL. I have absolutely no doubt about that. I do, however, have doubts City would take the plunge at this point in time. His lack of composure in goalscoring situations might be their concern, also they don’t throw many high balls into the box.

Mind you, they will love his pace, physical competitiveness, ability to run the channels, his touch and back to goal technique. City create tap-ins, having DCL in their line-up would give them different options. I’m not saying they will want him, but he’ll definitely be a consideration.

You are fixed in your view & I won’t change your mind, but it won’t be because of DCL if we fail to progress as a team.
Manchester City is out of the question. His qualities do not fit the way Guerdiola wants City to play. Manchester United is perhaps more relevant, and I think he could have done well there. He has been linked with Manchester United, but most Manchester United supporters (as I have read) believe he is overrated and that he is very limited. They would rather have Cavani for another year.

Exactly. We need Doucoure fit and either a RW so James can play inside or a ACM of real quality to support. If we got a decent RB it would mean we could attack from both sides. DCL is not the problem he just unfortunately isn't the solution all on his own.

Hes not playing at his best right now but he would be helped a lot if other members of the squad would start offering goals. Our midfield does not score goals...

Allan 0
Davies 0
Gomes 0
Iwobi 1
Bernard 1
Delph 0

We basically have 4 players in the squad who can score. It's not good enough.
iwobi bernard and delph need selling asap

More so than Godfrey and Holgate as a partnership, yes. Also, having to be able to get on to a functional midfield better than what we have works wonders. For every play Barkley drove forward towards Watkins we had Sigurdsson slugging away and Iwobi doing nothing. You expecting Dom to do everything himself?

So apart from 20 goals in all competitions. Leading the line all season. He's expected to score 20 yarders, chase lost causes, create chances himself. So basically...to be any good in your eyes he needs to be a complete striker, an elite level one. Basically on par with Harry Kane in this league.

Mate, hardly any players get into a "top European side". Guess why? They already have that striker.

And who are these bang average players getting 13-17 a season? Cos if they're doing that every year, they're more than bang average.

I bet your solution would be....buy a better striker. But then you've put yourself in a contradiction because you say bang average strikers get 13+ goals a season, we need to improve on DCL, so where do we get this elite level striker from if the striker we've got isn't good enough for us?

Watkins?

Oh and guess what? Doms not the finished article yet. So who knows what he can do

Yeah but ...Ollie Watkins does it all on his own

Well Godfrey and holgate have played more premier league games than konsa and Ming's, so id say both sets of CBS are pretty inexperienced.

Where have I said I expect Dom to do everything? Do I expect him to do more than win a header from a corner in the whole game though? Yes.

This thread will be like this for years, with us arguing for and against Dom but it honestly baffles me how after watching him recently people think he's doing enough.

In regards to the top European clubs, people are saying he would be of interest to them all, which is just so fabricated.

What I mean about people banging in goals each season, I didn't specially mean one player is doing it every year, I meant more so different average players are getting a good return in goals, like DCL has 15 which is decent but even people like Patrick bamford have 14, is he of interest to all major clubs? If not, why not?

Didn't Charlie Austin get like 20 league goals a couple of years ago with qpr?

I go on about DCL a lot in here, but people don't seem to understand my beef with it, it's not I'm saying he's absolutely terrible, I just don't agree he's as good as people make out, if he gets 15-20 constantly for the next few season then fair enough I might change my mind on him, I just don't see it, his all round game isn't good enough ( for me ) to suggest he's capable of getting 20 a season constantly.

I stand by that if you put this lad in City's team or even Liverpool, he'd be a 30-goal a season striker right now.

He was better the other day than he has been recently. Hold up better, passing better and his header was brilliant. Shame the team tactics and performance were typically crap.

He’d be on their bench after 2 games so I doubt it.
