2021/22 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Carlton Cole is a great shout.

Fair play.

I hope people don’t think we’re mocking him and being disrespectful to Carlton with that comparison. He caused defenders a lot of problems with his physicality early in his career and had a handful of very good runs of form. Much like Calvert-Lewin.

Cole also served as Rooney’s backup during a World Cup year but unfortunately a loss of form meant he didn’t end up going to the tournament. Hopefully the same fate doesn’t befall Dom.

It's really not looking good for Dominic is it. The omens do not read well.

Do not think he will ever get the nod from Southgate to replace Kane except as a sub. Unless he radically improves over our remaining games and scores a few goals then for me it is still sell.

I'm not sure it's a lack of effort from DCL, he is a pacey powerful player, who, while still a relatively young man, has had a serious injury to his large thigh muscle. Now he doesn't need to be medically trained to work out that, with his style of play, the chances of this ruining his career are quite high. I think this is showing in his performances, I really do think he is frightened to push himself to his limits in case he triggers a recurrence of the injury.

When he first had this injury, I remember discussing this with one of the posters on here. I said that, with DCL's playing style, I worried if he would come back the same player. His problem is that there is not enough guile about him for him to adapt his style of play to one that doesn't ask so many questions of his fitness. If he loses the pace and power and willingness to run the channels, he will just be a very average centre forward and can probably forget his champions league ambitions.

I think @Eggs was the one who was saying that it may be wise to sell due to his injury.
