Could see Newcastle putting in a decent offer towards the end of the window, especially if they don’t get that young french striker. Big increase in wages and massive signing on fee would turn his head. No idea who we could bring into replace him though.

He has three years left on his contract and has never mentioned anywhere about a desire to leave.

I think this is one story being run simply for clicks.

Probably, but he’s not a boyhood blue, and the chance of a massive wage increase and signing on bonus would appeal to most players. Also whether he feels he can continue to progress with us, or would a change of scenery benefit him more and his England chances. Until an offer is made though all just guesswork.

How many players are boyhood fans ?

Where would he go ? Newcastle ?

Eddie Howe kept Newcastle out of relegation trouble by spending heavily, they still have a long way to go before they challenge for anything.

What??

He played 13 mins against Watford. "Scored" against Brentford (it grazed his chest) and then the Palace game, let's not rewrite history and pretend any of them played well, up until the comeback. At HT, fans were in meltdown.
Watched him live at goon park last game of the season. He was a proper handfull over the 90 mins. Unlike Lukaku he's not just a highlights player

Hang on. Just to clarify...

Bob Latchford
Joe Royle
Graeme Sharp

Eclipsed by Duncan Ferguson?

If he had managed to stay fit (and stay on the pitch when he was fit) he may be in with a shout of comparison.

His 'legend' status with so many fans is simply an indication of how crap we have been.
I think his 'legend' status is largely a heavy dose of light-hearted self piss-taking by Evertonians. Not sure many of us would genuinely argue that he was a really good player, most in the know point instead to other actual ball players.

He has a cult following because it's funny, but also because he represents a different era of aggressive red card football. He's like a Vinnie Jones figure isn't he - a lot of the 'legend' status he has at the club is actually given to him by outsiders who see him as a premier league icon.

DCL will not have the same affection for the club as Gordon say, so if he was offered a life changing salary the decision to leave wouldn’t be as hard to make.
I’m happy for DCL to stay, but the only way we as a club can move forward (minus being bought by a state), is the buy cheap sell high model. If we get an offer to good to turn down, sell him, same with Richarlison and every other squad player. That obviously relies on a good scouting network though for replacements, which is currently an issue.

Nar, its not that.

Its the fact that he gave us hope, a player who fought for the shirt.

As I say, its up to people who they consider legends.

Some saw the 80s team and dont consider anybody else can even come close, but we all have different criteria for who we consider OUR legends.

For me Duncan was 1 of mine. Baines, Jags, Coleman, Cahill to name a few others, none of them, other than Duncan won a trophy, but they made me happy watching them play and I consider them my Everton legends. Others might not agree and thats fine, cos its MY list of Legends.

Hard to come by aren't they.

Scored my first and second ever Goodison goals. Love the geezer personally

he`s only 25 mate! i dont think thats on players minds at his age when he`ll already be earning more than most plumbers i can think of. i`d sooner Pickford went than DCL if anything

No doubt he’s already a millionaire, but it’d be hard to turn down a significant increase, as well as his agent wanting a piece. I’d have no problem selling any of them as long as our valuation is met.

And in an era of mercenaries, he was a guy who genuinely loved the club and its fans.
