2022/23 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

He slotted 17 for Blackburn when we sold him though. Always felt Moyes had issues with his strikers after a season apart from Saha.

Beckford bagged 10 goals and he hated his attitude. Andy Johnson was running channels for Cahill to arrive late. Yakubu didn't run and that wound him up no end. Jelavic went off a cliff after January.

When Martinez brought in Lukaku and I don't think Moyes would've even thought about him if he was still manager.
Yeah, I think season 1 Yakubu also really benefited from Johnson doing a lot of his running too.

So like how Dominic Calvert-Lewin was rushed back from injury by our last manager and has been broken ever since? Yet is taking a hell of a lot of flack now while people wish for a player who had a worse record for us. Even though Yakubu undoubtedly could finish.

Noone is saying we don't need need another striker, but the grief he is getting is ott. Yakubu may have scored that chance, but if you are saying to me that in 25 appearances in 09/10 following that injury that he didnt miss any chances like that when he only scored 5 that season then its massive double standards. ,
Mate, I agree with you fully on the flak being ott. I actually think a couple of posters have hit the crack pipe hard over the weekend and have gone a bit rabid.

I'm actually pretty relaxed about the chance, he gets one per game. But I honestly think Yakubu nets that. Its no secret Dom misses a few like that.

Tbf, Blackburn set up entirely to feed him. He could still finish, but he was never the same I don't think.

Back to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, as a finisher he's nor in the same class as Yakubu.
Which is what we aren't doing for Calvert Lewin. Ancelotti did, and it paid off. However due to injury crisis, he then had to change the tactics and we stopped providing in the same way. (4 CBs etc).

Strikers generally play well when teams are set up for them. Vardy at Leicester for example. Counter attacking with balls in behind. We don't have the players/set up to help DCL at all currently.

Probably does. We need another striker with different attributes. But we will end up with Broja most likely, and unless we massively upgrade our wingers, it will be the same scenario all over again.

Broken toe, quad, knee, hamstring.

That's not just 1 big injury that's multiple muscle injuries in his legs and spent 30+ league games out.

Cannot see that getting better

Toe and knee aren't muscles. So he has had 2 muscle injuries with the other 2 being freak injuries. With last season being rushed back before he was ready which aggravated it.

Mate, you seem to think I'm attacking DCL. I'm really not. There's a consistent theme to my posts in this thread- we need forward options. I've said before we've probably not had more than one capable striker on the books at any one time since the season we had Yakubu and Johnson.

Cover, competition, partnerships etc.

Sorry, just used to having to contest with posters crying about him and wishing injury on him.

Anyone who’s watched both players will know that there is absolutely no conversation to be had about who was the better all round centre forward.

Noones having that conversation. Yakubu was the better finisher and striker (but different types of strikers). But everyone just ignoring the 3 seasons after his one good season. And if you raise them, lots of reasons are given why. But DCLs reasons aren't accepted.

Each to their own though. But whether it's dcl, or maupay, or whoever else, while we have the level of creativity in the squad we currently have, it's going to make very little difference. Haaland would be invisible in our team.

Toe yes, isn't a muscle.

Most common football injuries are ACL, MCL, or meniscus sprains or tears which are all ligaments...while technically not muscles still rip and tear like a muscle. He didn't dislocate his knee or anything so all his reoccurring injuries are rips and tears to tissue. These never heal 100%.

He had a long rest and was eased back in pre season. Was fully fit until a "freak" knee injury. Lampard has been taking it easy on him.

He's got a whole month off coming up. If he's not fit...I can't see him ever being fit to play a full season because of it. Which is a shame.

That could depend tbh, I work as a Physiologist and id be interested to know if those injuries are all to the same leg? He may have underlying issues.
