I think if we were capable of lumping everything up, we'd create more chances. Not necessarily converting those chances, but certainly causing more issues for the opposition and less pr@tting about trying to play football from the back

Scored 8 the season before despite playing 1000 less minutes and being only 21. And before that, as a 19/20 year old was mainly played out wide.

He has shown progression every season as a young player who cost the grand total of 1.5m, while being expected to be first choice striker for a team whose fans still expect us to have a 20+ goals a season striker despite us not finishing top half for like 5 years.

Realistically, he has had one bad season due to injuries where he missed half the games. And even then, scored the goal that guaranteed our survival.

We do need another striker, but let's not pretend he is total crap like everyone is trying to even if he has missed some good chances recently.

Of course not. But he's now consistent getting muscle injuries and his goal conversion isn't good enough when he's back from injury to rely upon now. Look at Callum Wilson for example. Always crocked. Always comes back and nets.

We need to be looking for 1st choice striker now.

Absolutely undeniable we need a better and more robust forward line.

I keep looking at YouTube clips of Andy Johnson and Yakubu and going all misty eyed.

Ah mate, that achilles injury ruined him. He just wasn't the same player after that. I remember reading he'd been complaining of a heel problem for a bit and he was pushed to play. And it popped.

He slotted 17 for Blackburn when we sold him though. Always felt Moyes had issues with his strikers after a season apart from Saha.

Beckford bagged 10 goals and he hated his attitude. Andy Johnson was running channels for Cahill to arrive late. Yakubu didn't run and that wound him up no end. Jelavic went off a cliff after January.

When Martinez brought in Lukaku and I don't think Moyes would've even thought about him if he was still manager.

So like how DCL was rushed back from injury by our last manager and has been broken ever since? Yet is taking a hell of a lot of flack now while people wish for a player who had a worse record for us. Even though Yakubu undoubtedly could finish.

Noone is saying we don't need need another striker, but the grief he is getting is ott. Yakubu may have scored that chance, but if you are saying to me that in 25 appearances in 09/10 following that injury that he didnt miss any chances like that when he only scored 5 that season then its massive double standards. ,
