2022/23 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

See I actually agree he’d be useful for us, but not for his goals, for the way he the ball sticks to him. The price though? No shot. We just need a target man. We’ve looked lost ever since we moved away from it. Look how much Kiefer Moore terrorised us ffs! Modern defenders have no idea what to do with a target man.
The first thing we have to do is to stop talking about an irrelevance like Calvert-Lewin. Then we have to sign his and Richarlison's replacements.

But sadly Dave we can’t stop talking about our best current striker. Dom, Maupay, Carroll. You’d have to be extremely prejudiced to not admit he’s so much better than the other two. He needed someone bringing in in the Summer. Still does. Probs won’t.

He's not a striker at all. He's part and parcel of the treatment room...like a therapy table.

But he's not fit. We need to move on from someone who can't get on the pitch, regardless of the fact he's better than the other options. Waiting on him to get fit will get us relegated

Lampard and Thelwell could not of got this any more wrong. They needed to get a replacement. Not pin all their hopes on a lad who can't catch a break

Yeh and I’m not disagreeing with that Tim and you know how much I love Dom
I like him too but I'm very frustrated at the refusal of the club to accept the reality that he's not going to available very much.

This was not bad luck. This was all very predictable back in the summer. He needs to be seen as a bonus who can come in and make a difference every now and then.

Problem is what do you pay? It’s a weird one. Pay £30m and then Dom is fit what do you do? We’re not City. You can’t keep all these strikers fit.

If they both are fit then great, the one in best form plays and we also have someone to change a game. All teams need more than 1 goalscorer. We currently have 0 who are fit and available.

We have to pay as much as we can sensibly afford to get a new first 11 striker because the current no.9 is not reliable. If he gets fit and stays fit great, but I think we've got to assume that's unlikely. There is no evidence he will suddenly get fit in the near future and be available the rest of the season.

If we don't sign a goalscorer, and ideally 2, then I dont see how we can survive.

I really rate Dom, as ive said, but, he simply can not be relied on at this point.

And if anybody at the club is still considering it, which is very possible, then may God have mercy on our souls.

The problem is and im sure his haters will jump on this next bit, but hes really not easy to replace, its a damn shame, it really is.

But, he needs replacing, sadly.

As you say, if at some point he does get fit, we can just sack off the clown we replaced him with, cos whoever it is, is inferior.

But hey, we dont need to replace DCL with DCL, just somebody who can score some goals, not even loads of goals, just a few.

I have no doubt there are people in the club still thinking he will suddenly get fit and save us. Benitez kept saying it last year. Thelwell and Lampard pinned all their hopes on him this year. If they didn't think we needed strikers in August then it's very possible they still feel the same. This is Everton after all. We are really really incompetent.

Of course he is hard to replace but thats why we employ managers and directors of football - to find solutions to problems on the pitch. You cannot just ignore the position of greatest need because its hard to find the right player. There are lots of types of striker out there and we need to go out and make the moves in the next fortnight.

Not signing replacements for DCL and Richarlison in August was negligent by the club. People need to be sacked over what happened.

Nah, that’s just shorterism. He’s tall, fast and strong. Defenders hate playing against him. We’ve seen him almost get a load sent off because of what he does. @Eggs knows

….a fit and firing DCL is an absolute handful for any defender in the PL. Prodigious leap, great pace and power with a competitive edge. No CB would look forward to facing him.

A fit and firing DCL would transform our season but he’s physically fragile and it’s gross incompetence the club hasn’t acquired an effective alternative.

i like the young man, his injury plight is a shame but the club have managed the situation appallingly.

I have never rated him as anything more than an average forward and would have cashed in on him when his value was at its highest.
That said the club should never be in the position that when one player is injured it jepardises the whole future of the club.
It is absolutely criminal that it has come to this so who is to blame ?
Moshiri,Kenwright , Thelwell or Lampard? who ever it is should be sacked for gross negligence .The people to blame is certainly not the fans as seems to be the current narative, apparently we are too demanding and put too much pressure on the players.
If we are guilty of something it is expecting players earning £80000 a week to be able to kick a ball between 2 posts 8 yards apart.
