The problem with him being out for so long is that the anticipation for his return builds and builds to the point where people are expecting Zlatan 2011 when he comes back and him to transform our team single handedly. Then when he comes back and is just the average striker he’s always been, it causes more angst. And no, before anyone starts, this isn’t his fault.
This is my line of thinking.
Is DCL our best striker? Absolutely. He should play ever minute he possibly can because it only helps our chances of staying up.
Is he going to come back and singlehandedly drag us from relegation?
I'm not so sure. He is our best striker, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's a good striker. He's good at hold up and winning headers, but others than that 2 month period under Ancelotti he has never been an out and out goal scorer.

I hope he comes back and it helps the team scrape through, but I worry too many see him as some sort of silver bullet to our troubles.

Maybe he’d play better if he wasn’t on grass. Can’t be good for his match sharpness

I thought he was great in the 60 mins he played against Arsenal.
Waaay better than Simms or Maupay at leading the line, he was tracking back and winning the ball in midfield too.
He's a handful in the box.
He'll definitely distract defenses and make space.
He may not score loads but his presence increases the likely hood of others scoring.
I thought Gray did well against Forest and I actually think he and DCL could do well in a 442 or 4411.

If you look at the games we've gone behind in, we've shown no way of getting back in to them. but going 442 with Gray and DCL after going behind might help.
Dyche needs go get this team to figure out how to chase a game.

Think we all need to look at the board and recruitment here. I know exactly what folk are saying this last couple of pages - he's not Messi or prime R9. But he's an able prem level striker. Not elite, but knows the role. And look what a difference it makes to us as a team having someone as a focal point or giving defences something to worry about.

The fact we categorically failed to bring in any kind of competent strikers (doesn't have to be prolific, but can chip I'm or hold up play) at this level is unfathomable.

It's good that he's back in some form, but it takes time to get his match fitness back and we will need patience again, still far better than what we have now in place of him.

I think we are essentially saying the same thing.
We are better with DCL than without, he helps the team get up the pitch by winning headers and hold up play.
My concern is that a lot of the fanbase seems to think DCL coming back fixes all of our problems and we'll start climbing the table. I am hesitant to believe that because he doesn't actually provide many goals himself, and our other forwards have proven to be less than prolific in front of goal.
In short DCL makes us better, but is the level of "better" good enough to get us enough points to escape relegation? I'm not sure it is whith the amount of matcher left to play.

I hope it is.

My new poem for DCL

Oh Dom I'm glad you're back
Cos without you we are cack
I fear Dyche may get the sack
But with you he'll get some slack
Oh Dom please score a winner
So we can enjoy our dinner
With stress I'm getting thinner
"It's just a commercial" said Michael Winner
Blammo blammo Dom
You are the Lewin Bomb
I'd let you date my mum
And I'd be your new found son

ps I love you Dom, call me x
