2022/23 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Hopefully he's been watching videos on how to finish. It's the least he can do for his wage.
He's probably seeing us do relatively ok without him and wanting another game soon...then he'll be out another 6 weeks.

It's time a manager here put an end to that cycle and just sidelined him altogether.

Gray can lead the line capably.

I agree. He seems like a nice fella but he's average at best and never fit.

I diont hate him. I just want him out of the club. Same as Mina. If they've conclusively demonstrated that we cant rely on them playing then get them out.
So our top international CF is injured & you want to dump him ? He saved us in the crucial game v Palace, Dave - short memory - do not compare him with Mina as DCL cost us next to nothing ......

When fit, he is a quality no 9 if he in the future can not be reliable fitness wise I then get your point - Gray is doing well for now DCL is now not far away from returning - give him a chance FGS.....

Not needed, LOL.

Actual LOL.
...and yet we get wins without him as the other players simply take it on their shoulders to get a goal or create a chance or be there for a chance.

Let's have this right: a fit Calvert-Lewin had ONE good season...and only then when the whole team were knocking in crosses for him every minute of the game.

He's limited; he's vulnerable to injury; he's unfocussed...and he's surplus to requirements for any PL club that wish to stay a PL club.

We got rid of Joe Royle & he went to City & gained 7 more international caps ..... he was out for nearly a season - same logic posters are thinking on DCL here now .....he has to be recalled when fit as Gray will not stand the hammering upfront alone - maybe playing off DCL when he returns .....

You have to 'logically' bake in to this that his rare appearances are likely disruptive to a team looking to get a settled team for crucial games.

It's getting sillier and sillier the defence of Calvert-Lewin now.

If he’s fit to play, then play him. If he’s not, then don’t.

No one is going to buy a player who can’t get fit, and playing him when he may not be fully fit in an arbitrary match against Spurs increases the risk of him pulling up injured, and is only going to hamper any prospect of selling him further.
We may have to cut our losses with this fella, sadly. His injury appears to be baffling successive management teams. There does not appear to be an obvious physical issue. The Spurs match is not even our next match - it is weeks away. If the player cannot be available by then, we obviously have little choice but to rely on those who are available. After that, I'd be wary of upsetting the available players to shoehorn Calvert-Lewin back into the side when he finally does become available. I don't think a relegation battle is the best time for integrating the returning wounded, but that'll be for the manager.

Whether we stay up or go down, the club simply has to have striking alternatives next season. Any player can get injured and any player can become unavailable for other reasons. No fault there. But the club simply cannot delude itself that it is mitigating that risk to the best of its ability. We now know - and we already did, really - that Calvert-Lewin is delicate. We have no excuse whatsoever.

'top international CF' - he's almost 26 years old and has fewer than a dozen caps. When was the last time he even started for England in a meaningful game? Even if he was fit the likes of Toney and Abraham and Wilson and Rashford would probably still be in ahead of him.

'a quality no 9' - he's got some good attributes if you play to them, but generally he's pretty limited and quite average. "Quality" strikers get you 25-30 goals a season year in year out. DCL has gotten into double figures only twice and is arguably half way through his professional career.

He & Richy were our main goal threat & you dont want to use him in the relegation run in - not great logic - Dave - if he gets match fit he is a must at no 9, so someone can hold the ball up & stop 2nd half barrages like yesterday by linking the midfield unit up the pitch - Gray has done very well - but does not win the balls in the air or have the body strength for a number 9 - I agree he has to be 100% fit though, the reason why Dyche has sidelined him for such reason. Not one game here & there etc ....

Twas the height of mind-boggling insanity for the club and Lampard to hang their hat entirely on a lad who has been consistently injured for 18 months. No serious club can do that. Need to sign at least 2 quality strikers in the summer. If DCL stays and is a 3rd option to have -if fit- no problem. If anyone is daft enough to pay a reasonable fee for him, sell and reinvest in non-injury-prone players.

Were you saying that when we beat Arsenal 1-0 & he led the line brilliantly? Unfortunately, he is now injured because Lampard felt a 50% DCL was good enough - Dyche sees now it differently ...... he has stated he has to get 100% fit no risks ....
