Granted football is it's own bubble world, but my point is valid. Why ON EARTH would Dom --or any player anywhere in the world-- say "hey I'd like to be paid less because I haven't played as much". It's nonsensical lunacy. My own fault for giving such a daft, pointless assertion the time of day in hindsight.

I would not ask for a pay decrease. You would not. A professional footballer would not. No one would.

You're absolutely right. Once you've signed on the line which is dotted, that's the deal. No one is giving back any money.

Shame on Everton for not including a greater percentage of performance incentives in their contracts. Another example of poor business practice.

I seem to remember Beckham giving all his PSG salary to charity! Meanwhile, Messi would not budge on his pay demands at the club who made him an very wealthy man and so he went to PSG

Get a genuine main man up front and Dom can be a very useful second choice once free of the burden of expectation.

If he ever hits a purple patch again, cash in.

Everton sentimentality kicking in again.
He’s had 2 years not performing.
What would other clubs do?
Some real examples on here of why this club is in the mess it is, too soft and too interested in doing the perceived ‘right thing’
It’s a performance business, and he’s not performing.
It just isn't that simple.
DCL is an excellent striker who has been plagued with injuries for two years, but was largely injury free before that.
There are plenty of clubs who would be prepared to sign him still ,getting him to sign a long term deal was a coup for the club when it happened a few years ago.

If the club is guilty of anything it is of being totally reliant on one player in possibly the most important area of the pitch.
DCL was forced to play when not really ready because we had no alternative and that made the chances of further injury even greater.

I think Beckham's motive was far less altruistic than it first looked. Bit of controversy around it, as it was a way around paying high tax in France apparently.

Yeah, was just about to put this. High earner tax in France was about 70% (may still be). While Beckham gave a fair chunk of his salary to charity, as many players do, he requested PSG paid all of his charitable donations directly so that he never had to cover the tax prior to giving. They also paid for his accomodation directly, hotels and all associated bills for his entire contract so that his earnings were dramatically reduced and therefore tax payments were reduced.

I also got the impression, that it was a calculated move, as it`d look good on his CV, during that time when he was after a knighthood.

Both him and her don`t do anything without a very good reason.

Is this clinic the same one Paul Bracewell went too?
As it never worked out for Paul to play at top level again ... He did manage to drop down to play, his injuries though were horrific from bad tackles....

Beckham was playing the PR game at that stage of his career. Joining PSG was as much for his own status as the football. Winning titles across Europe for his legacy.
Surprisingly been low key since retiring, old beckham.

I remember an old work colleague tell me he went on a tour of OT a good few years back. when Beckham was still playing, just not at United. There were photos of almost all ex united players dotted around the ground, but not a single one of Beckham. Apparently he had all of his image rights and as part of that United had to pay him to use his image. They refused to pay him so removed all the photos with him in a promiment position.
