2023/24 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Usually I'd say yes. We have an Everton number 9 about to go 20 games without a goal.

But I don't think Beto or Chermiti do any better - which says a lot.

Even if they got 2 or 3 goals in that time - if you're playing direct/long ball - you need a player who'll make it stick. Beto can't do that - I don't know why we signed him for the fee we did. I assumed he'd be of Calvert-Lewin's mould, he isn't. He needs balls played behind the backline and we haven't got that.
Maybe that's the mythical plan B? And I meant we can also not play long ball yet remain with the direct approach - it was available tonight as well, but the instructions to hoof ASAP are clear to see.

That stat is from the other day though. He at least makes the ball stick and capable of bringing others into play.

Honestly, I don't see that in Beto's game at all and we've not got the players who'll be pinging balls through to Beto to run on to.
He hasn't done that in ages. In fact, maybe since that game.

We dropped Harrison tonight and Young come in. Did it help?

I think it would be the same dropping Calvert-Lewin for Beto.
We've spent 30 million on Beto. If he's not noticeably improving on 0 goals in 20 games after giving him a run then we need to sack every scout involved in that decision.

I’d still start him over Beto. Ideally with Harrison and Onana in the starting 11 playing behind him so there’s more attack minded players in midfield.
