2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Bar the 1v1 which showed a bizarre lack of confidence for a striker that had scored 2 in 2 and thinks he’s worth 675k a week, he was very good today.

Yes we would have won if he’d scored that chance so automatically he is the spawn of Satan. Booo! And he’s made a habit of missing those same chances (even against this same keeper!). But still, if his shot against the bar had been 2cm lower and we’d drawn he’d have been MoM. Did a lot of good.

But it wasn’t. He missed, again.

….it really is in his own interest to play very well this season and boost his Bosman options. He looked as fit as he has done in a while yesterday, but I always fear those big leg muscle injuries when a player takes the hand-brake off.

The longer we have him at this level of fitness, the better at least until Broja is ready.
I’m not sure I’ve ever known a striker go 1v1 and inspire less confidence, unfortunately.

Think it’s more about a striker going clean through and nobody in the world expecting him to score

Unlucky with the one off the bar though, going against the grain here but I thought he was our best player yesterday, I agree he should have scored that first one on one though. It's a thankless task being an Everton striker nowadays, hoof win it, hoof win it and collect you're nod on. Thought he bullied their central defenders at times yesterday. It's our defence that's been the main problem this year imo and our failure to bring in a fullback. Plus our preperation, Sligo Rovers, Salford City, Tranmere... Sorry but a premier league team need stronger prep than that.

One of my mad takeaways from yesterday was how much he had the cbs in his pocket for pace every time the ball went in behind and how little we seem to use that (guess you need to have the ball to play that pass)
Looks the most fit he's been in about 4 years.
Awful 1on1 finisher tho

1 in 2 ratio this season 😂😂

We are 4 games in. He was good in parts last night but again when it matters he fluffed his lines.

He’s been terrible for 3 seasons now.

Stop hyping him up. He’s a terrible striker. Not one team came in for him, not even Saudi! It’s only a few dopes on here that actually rate him.
I think some of us just like supporting our players mate.

The problem is people are expecting him to score every opportunity. Even the best don’t. He leads the line well, but does have his short comings.

The football we play he has to score every opportunity because we literally create nothing.

The one on one I think he was offside but he should still have done better.

The crossbar, he did so well to create the opportunity and was unlucky.

He’s the best we have, by along way. Beto isn’t even a footballer, if we're completely honest.

I think I’d rather support him rather than place the managers and teams collective failings at his door.

I’ve never been a fan of his but I thought he played about as well as could be expected for a side that had virtually none of the ball.

That being said, it says an awful lot when you know your England international striker is 99% going to miss when put clean through on goal.

I can’t remember ever seeing a player with technique as poor as his with these kind of chances, his bottle seems to go as well the longer he has.

Clearly our best striker by a long long way. Leads the line well and was a proper proper handful all game.

Also really really bad when a chance needs composure, try and figure that out!

Anyone who can’t see the first whilst acknowledging the second is living in the past - we aren’t a team that is going to have both anymore. Lucky to have one.

That was basically him at his very best yesterday.

He'll look good bullying a skinny fart like Pau Torres, but he can't put away anything beyond the easiest possible chances.

This is why clubs are laughing at his wage demands.

People saying he cost us the game? We were winning 2-0 and lost 3-2 hmm.
No it wasn’t on him, but if he had put that chance away it would have took some more pressure off the embarrassing defence we had.

We have to make the most of any chance we have as the defence can’t be trusted at the moment.
