2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

This will be the manager who insists he doesn’t need to employ a striking coach, yes?
Personally dont get stuff like needing a striking coach. what are they going to tell players, hit the ball like this, do that, theres the goal etc. A player should have the sense to need to know what to do when they need to. Lewin has missed so many chances, that have at times cost us in games, and at others, we got away with, as we won

Well if you’re of the ‘football is a simple game,’ mindset then I think we’ll just have to agree to fundamentally disagree.

Goalscoring has been an issue all through Dyche’s tenure, but it’s okay because the three lads who shared a house together decades ago coincidentally happen to have all the coaching expertise he needs. He doesn’t need to cast his net any wider than that.

He did that against Villa, didn't he. Didn't score.
The issue I have with that comparison is the sample size: comparing one attempt where he didn't score and multiple attempt where he didn't, questions the validity.

As a striker on a 1-on-1, the correct technique is to hit it low and to the side of the keeper, so I ain't saying he should fully steer away from it - it needs to improve.

But, you'd hope the coaches would be looking at other avenues alongside this.

I disagree: instructional coaching is shown to have significant benefits in any profession or skill, if done properly. From top surgeons to tennis players, it's adopted.

It's looking at the technique and mental aspects of a specific aspect of your role, practising and refining it until it's stronger.

He just proved again yesterday that he isn't worth the extortionate salary that he thinks he is, and underlines the reason why no one was prepared to have a punt on him in the recent transfer window. Someone will take him when his contract ends, because they'll get him for nowt.

I agree.

It's hard to think of any team above our level in which he would be the No 1 striker.

I guess a team between say 4th and 8th might take him as a 2nd string option but are they aren't going to pay him £150k a week to sit on the bench.

He isn't good enough to even be 2nd string for a top 4 team .

Honestly not sure where he goes

…I suspect they’ll start going in, he’s always been hit or miss and at the moment he’s very much miss. Playing very well otherwise and looking as fit and competitive as he has for a while.

It’ll be interesting how Broja gets on when he’s fit, he looks the only one who could be an improvement.

Why would you suspect they will start going in ?

He had two yesterday , two against villa? And scored zero… I literally cannot name another prem striker that I would think would score 0 out of 4 clear one one ones

….view from opposition fans is interesting;

Its the thing with Dom, he was superb in the build up play, disrupting, bullying and actually defensive play - amazing 10/10.

But he's not and never will be a great finisher. 3/10.

Its not that he's not getting chances, he doesn't finish them.

If hes was a finisher hed be one of the best in the league and wed be looking for £80 mill easily.

He is what he is, and like Doucoure its effective, you accept it and its limitations - no point willing him to be something he's not and never will be.

….that type of player, they invariably have a spell when some of those one-on-ones go in but he is what he is in terms of goalscoring.
