2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Well I think a lot of them were signed as first choice.

The issue isn't whether first choice or back up, it's that we have found it hard to find goal scoring attackers.
Any striker in Dyche side are going to struggle to score these days, one of the podcasts put some stats out about shots on target for the last year they are atrocious. Bottom or second to Wolves...

I have a strong feeling he’ll to this month and you’ll be surprised who he goes to.
I can see how that would benefit Everton from a PSR point of view, but I don’t see why any club would be keen to spend on him this month rather than pick him up for free in the summer… it’s hardly as if he’s been a hot property for any part of the last few seasons.

I cant see how Tosun, Rondon, Beto, Maupay, Kean or Chermiti were seriously signed to challenge DCL and become first choice.
I think this has been part of issue.
I've come to see Dycheball as more the symptom than the cause of a long running transfer policy which now sees the attack more or less rendered impotent.

This is difficult as he clearly wants out … add to that he can’t score anymore so he needs to go. Downside is Beto is no use and I hope he is sold as well. We can’t go through the season with just Broja and Chermiti … We need some magic from our new owners as the other clubs at the bottom will all strengthen and we could be in danger if we don’t make some adjustments and quickly ..

I think you're making a different argument to the one I'm making mate.

Mine is that that evidence would show to us, that almost every alternative has been worse at scoring goals.
I'm suggesting the evidence you've presented is tainted by the fact he's started a much greater proportion of matches than anyone else that's been here while he has.

You'd expect the one who starts more often than the rest to have outscored the ones who mostly featured from the bench.

I mean that's somewhat subjective.

Every other team create a lot more chances than us. I'm not wholly convinced every team have a striker who gives us what DCL does. Lots of strikers don't score say 8 goals, in teams that create more chances.
I think this is where his supporters and detractors will have to agree to disagree.

Some seem to believe they're watching hold-up play on the level of a Teddy Sheringham, whereas others struggle to name a single standout attribute he has outside of a prodigious standing leap.

Their record is still is very poor
