2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Two very different types of strikers, DCL does a lot of good work as an isolated lone striker but no one believes confidently that he scores that second goal Beto scored today. Beto can't hold the ball up but seems to be a much more natural scorer.

I'm not really interested in minutes. I'm looking at seasons and appearances, and his record is not very good.

DCL has outscored Beto in the two seasons here, and that's a half fit DCL. His allround game is also far superior. There's no conspiracy, he's played because he's miles better, or at least he's performed miles better.

I doubt Beto will ever score 16 in a season like Dom did when he was fully fit, under a competent manager.
Minutes playing actually matter in this case.

One thing is for sure , you can't score from the bench.
But you can get 18 games as starting striker and not find the net once.

You can't no, you can score when you get on the pitch though. Beto has done that 5 times in 45 games.

So hopefully we can see an improvement on that, even improvement to DCL levels would be welcomed.

Btw I want both to do well , they both offer something different.
But Come on , Dom has had almost exclusive full starting games , Beto has had mainly bit part sub appearances.

For the record this season DCL 22 games scored 3
Beto 15 mainly sub scored 4

And right there is my point: people still cling on to what Dom did FOUR years ago when we just happened to have one of the best managers in history and a large part of that happened to be partly in the time of empty stadiums, but I'm sure that played no part.

I doubt there are too many suggesting Beto is a better "all round" player (whatever that is worth or supposed to count for) but it's hard to score 16 goals a season when you're only being given the occasional 5 or 10 minute run out and ultimately that is what strikers are typically judged on, like it or not.

But if you're not interested in how much game time a striker gets in relation to goals, then I don't know what to tell ya. You doubt Beto would ever score 16 in a season, I doubt Beto would ever go 16 games without a goal. Twice. 15 games to go, let's see if Beto can eclipse DCL's 3 goal haul.

I mean I'm not clinging to it mate. I'm just pointing out what DCL could do when fit, not playing under two woeful managers and another who couldn't set a team up to attack.
