2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

I mean I'm not clinging to it mate. I'm just pointing out what DCL could do when fit, not playing under two woeful managers and another who couldn't set a team up to attack.
I hear ya, but DCL played 22 of the 23 games this season and 33 of the 38 last season (probably average about 80 mins per appearance I'd think, give or take). That sounds like a 'fit' / injury-free striker to me for eighteen months, yet the total return was 10 goals in that time frame. We can debate tactics and managers all day long, but top strikers find a way to make things happen, not miss chance after chance. The lad simply has zero composure infront of goal for me. I think his numbers last few years show that. Hopefully we move on in the summer and can find a striker that can bag 20 goals a season and we'll all be happy.

I mean he's fit, but he's not fit to go beyond just having balls lumped up to him. The moment he's asked to do more and look more like his old self, he breaks down.

My point would be, look at our results with and without DCL last season mate. That's why Dyche picked him. Because his all round game was the best we had, and honestly Dyche was too inept to know how to play a game plan to get strikers scoring.

I find the whole DCL thing a bit odd. He came as a kid for a pittance, has scored loads of goals for us, broke down because of injury and will leave without costing us more money.

Today's not about DCL though, just because Beto does well, that doesn't mean DCL had a bad game like. I'm chuffed for Beto. I don't rate him, and agree with Moyes when he says he needs to improve other aspects of his game, but he did really well today.

Just for full clarity, Im delighted for Beto. He took his goals well, it was a shame he spurned the other opportunity to shoot when he had a golden chance.

It's 1 game though. DCL had a great game in his last match, and scored a much harder chance. But it doesn't mean he's done brilliant either. That is the bar for Beto, it's about more than 1 game.

It's nice to have a manager who wants to involve the attackers though. Both Beto and DCL have looked a lot better than they did under Dyche.
I'm not singing Beto's praises, because I don't think he is particularly good, but, he is a centre forward, as is Calvert Lewin, the problem is that while Calvert Lewin is a better all round player than Beto, he would have almost certainly been offside for both of Beto's goals today and had he managed to keep himself onside, he would have very probably missed the target or scuffed his shot. He has no natural instinct for bending a run in order to stay on side, or instinctively finishing a chance.

I mean this is pure speculation. If we actually played DCL in earlier he would have got a lot more chances.

Calvin has showed enough to tell me he wouldn't have scored either of those two goals today. They would have both gone straight into the keeper's chest at a moderate speed. Great feet for the goal last week, but he's missed dozens of piss easy chances the last two seasons.

Given he'll miss another two months, I suspect we've seen his last goal for Everton FC.

I'm intrigued as to where he'll end up, as no significantly better team than Everton gives him a start and I'm not sure why he'd take a sidewards move within England.

Maybe he fancies a move abroad, it could revitalise him a complete change of scenery and culture.

And he’d have missed 90% of them
This right here sums it up. The bottom line is this lad is simply just is not a natural "ice cold finisher" type No9. The elite level strikers put up 25-30 goals every year and barely need more than one chance to score. There's never any doubt with them. With DCL, no matter the nature of the chance, I'm legit surprised if he even hits the target let alone forces a good save from the keeper instead of putting it right at him.

Ok I'll bite. DCL can trap a ball. DCL can pass a ball. DCL can hold a ball. DCL can head a ball. DCL can hold it up.

DCL scores more goals than Beto, even under a woeful manager.

It's also funny saying DCL doesn't score those today, when he scored a much harder chance in our previous home game!

But good on Beto, he scored 2 of his sitters well today.
Was Beto meant to score from the bench? I’m not saying Beto is the answer after one game, but Dom is legitimately the worst 1v1 striker I’ve ever seen in the prem. He’s had several of those exact chances this season and missed every one of them.

What I don't understand is everyone saying he needs service he needs service. Beto got the ball to him but there's almost no chance Dom finished those. If you want your striker to just run hard and not score goals, which he doesn't, then why do you need to pay him £100k pw when any league 1 striker would do the same thing and score just as infrequently?
