Dominic Calvert-Lewin

I think the lad has got something to be honest. He does have the ability to hold the ball up and earlier on when he was playing you could see he wanted to release the ball early to put people in. I do think he had lost his way a bit more recently but Koeman has put him on a hiding to nothing having him playing out wide and not playing to the strengths he has. As someone else has said the lad has played the equivalent of four full games in the wrong position for the first team. When playing up top for the 23s he has shown great technique and ability to hold the ball up. It would be good to see him play in his actual position against Watford next to rom.
I'm not sure whether the lad will ever be a top four player but some of the hysteria about the lad would have you thinking we have Brett Angell reincarnate playing at the min. Writing off a 20 year old trying to do a job in the wrong position because the manager doesn't trust his other options there is just crackers! Koeman knows we are finishing 7th and is choosing to continue to blood this lad because bolasie is injured and Valencia in all likelihood is going back to West Ham. Lookman looked poor in his last U23 outing and has looked lightweight recently but think his time will come after a pre season on the weights and when he has settled more in the north west.

I think he's obviously a centre forward, and RK is using the dead rubber matches towards the end of the season to allow him to get him used to the rigour of the premier league with out compromising Lukaku's position. Similar to how many managers do with emerging CB's - play them on the sides to bed them in without as much risk.

I agree, with shame our form has dropped off. But our season has technically over for the past month. Any chance of finishing higher has been gone due to so many games in hand Arsenal and Utd have. The lad has moved from League 1 to the Premier League. He's not going to be world class over night. Also he's not going to reach the levels playing for the Under 23's. He most likely needs a loan, but can't this season because he has already played for Sheffield. Also let's not forget we currently have a side with three young lads in it. Not many sided at our level do that.

Lad is clearly playing within himself, if the Ars were chasing him as well.

Seeing as it looks like Rom is NEA about scoring again this season, give DCL the job up top, see what happens.

Or heaven forbid, play 2 up top at home. Just like the old days when we won trophies.

I don't like to get on the back of young players and to write them off after a few games is unfair. However, Koeman's persistence in firstly selecting him each week, and secondly out wide is baffling. You have to show you have something when given a chance in the first team. Calvert-Lewin has shown very little in all of the games I have seen him play. Compare that to Davies who stood out the moment he was introduced against Southampton last season. This is all I can find on it but I remember Davies showed a moment of brilliance in our own box on his debut:

Gave the Goodison faithful something to smile about with an all energy, high-tempo cameo which bodes well from a young man with plenty of potential.

And then in the Norwich game where Davies started:

Kieran Dowell and Tom Davies gave Everton fans cause for optimism with brilliant performances in a 3-0 victory over Norwich City.

It might be unfair to compare Davies and Calvert Lewin as I believe there is a gulf in class between them, but sometimes you see younger players and just know they have it. I haven't seen anything from Calvert-Lewin yet to suggest he is even going to make it as a Premier League Player unfortunately. But we shouldn't write him off and he deserves a chance to prove himself in his proper position. Koeman needs to put it right and give Calvert Lewin a place in his proper position or not at all. He may need sending out on loan too.

far too rational a post for this thread mate.

obviously the posters fuming loudest about his new contract are the same posters who would be fuming loudest had he signed somewhere else.

fume first, assess why after.

In reality of course nobody is 'fuming' about anything. People are just wondering what Koeman is seeing in him, and questioning why he's in the side.
Think that's allowed on a discussion forum.

Scored the first for England U20 against Argentina U20. 2-0 up after an hour played.

No idea if he's playing well or what the goal was like or anything, just happened across the live score!
