2017/18 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

I can see him getting injured a few times, his style of play and the running we make him do means he will have to be in tip top shape all the time. Same with Sandro, that's not even including the clatterings they both have already took in a few short games.

I think its time to give Calvert-Lewin a proper run as the central striker with Sandro & Sigurdsson either side with Rooney behind.

None of this playing him at RW or RWB, just stick him at ST. He may not score a shed load but im absolutely certain his all round game will help us massively.

Agree with this. A lot to come form him, and whereas last season there didn't seem to be much to him, from what we have seen this season, he's faster, sharper and looks a hell of a lot more confident in his ability.

The lad should be given an extended chance as a central striker. The same way Graeme Sharp was, and look how he turned out...

Sounds like he will have a lot of playing time this season.Good luck to him.

What are the chances of him making next year's World Cup squad now?

Pretty high I'd say. Depends on the season Sturridge/Welbeck/Walcott/Vardy have. Obviously Kane would be first choice but if Dom plays well I think he'd definitely have to be considered.
But Southgate is a tool so expect him to fill the squad up with crap like Wilshere who will barely play 90 minutes the whole season let alone do anything in those minutes.

Silver linings. DCL now has an opportunity that few teenagers get. He's proven himself against top sides (albeit in a small sample size) and we literally have no one else who does what he does, so he'll get a really good run this season to make his mark and make us all forget we didn't sign a center forward in this window. For him, and us, I hope he continues to grow and adds goals to his locker. His mentality, intelligence, and athletic ability are all spot on. All he needs now is time. I think that gets sped up now, which in the long term only benefits us.

Was thinking about this last night. I'd say about 40%. Would be higher if England had a manager that had any sense though.

Go watch some videos of DCL being interviewed. He's clearly a very, very bright lad. No offense, but not the usual footballer speak. He actually speaks in complete sentences that have some thought behind them, and you can tell he's got a bright personality as well. I can see why the coaches loved him before it was evident he could play at this level.

I thought I'd see this lads thread being bumped today.

Trying to console yourselves that this lad is the real deal and will be our hero. The disappointment of being told by Farad Kenwright that someone stole the pot we were pissing in, has the usual suspects shrugging it off because we have big Dominic anyway.

Ha ha. Fair do's. He'll be judged on his goals to games ratio like all other strikers.

Your sig is a thing of beauty.

Never forget.

Think he should be judged more on his overall effort and performance as he settles into the first team squad environment, given the chances of him being given the primary striking role are likely to be few and far between.

He's young, eager, keen and promising, let's not hang a millstone of goals to games round his neck just yet.

For now, let's enjoy his contribution and if/when he scores look on his goals as something of a bonus. ;)

Whoa, think we need to put things in perspective here mate. This time last year DCL had only just joined up with England U20s and struggled to get game time ahead of the likes of established U20s s like Armstrong, Roberts, Issie Brown, Solanke. He did remarkably well at the U 20 World Cup and deserves all the praise he's been given , he's worked hard to earn it. But his next step is to establish himself in the u21 s, throw in Tammy Abrahams now into that mix . I'm not even sure if he'll start tonight , maybe Abrahams will, then he has to establish himself as a goalscorer at PL level , and arguably Rashford is ahead of him in that category, with again competition from Abrahams . At 20 he's still learning , and making rapid strides and getting lots of praise from pundits too but he's far from the finished article yet.

Basing that on his skill set though. Abraham isn't the same type striker. Obviously if he doesn't do the business the rest of the year all bets are off, but keep in mind when you take a squad to a tournament like that you have to have players on your bench who aren't moaning about not starting but you'd still trust to put in 20 minutes or so if need be.

Maybe that's high, but I am projecting out 9 months based on the improvement we've seen in the last 12. He may end up no where near that but it's just a projection.
