He’s only a 20 year old kid apparently. Just thought i’d mention as nobody seems to have pointed it out. Christ.

I want more of a goal threat from our starting striker. Sue me.

If that means he develops in the U23’s or on loan somewhere, I couldn’t give a monkeys.

While i do agree, if you could ask the other 10 to give him some actual service it would probably help.
It's either wellied up to him on his own or the play misses him completely.

Lukaku would have struggled with this service.

He'd be perfect in a front two with a slotter

DCL supplies, the other converts

Just a shame no one does two up front any more

...yes, hence the Graeme Sharp comparisons. Lineker, Gray, Heath and Cottee had lots to thank Sharp for. I agree with Mikey, DCL seems more that type. I do think Sigurdsson playing around and beyond him could also be productive.

Am at a loss to see what people have to complain about, given his age and lack of experience at this level he's doing very well.Working hard, winning free kicks and penalties,a few vital goals.I mean what do you want for 1.5 million?
I dont think its about what we want for 1.5 million, its about what we want out of a primary striker. DCL does a number of things well, but scoring goals, which is the biggest thing we need out of that spot isnt one of them yet. Its not entirely his fault, its just that we should have gotten a star striker in during the window, because DCL should be the #2, thats his proper spot at this point in his career.

If we are too compete we just need more from the position than we currently get.

What like, assists? winning penalties? winning corners? drawing fouls in dangerous areas? having opposition players foul you so much they are booked or sent off? drawing defenders away leaving spaces for others to run in and score? DCL does all of this, he is one of the players who just rolled up his sleeves and got on with it and not complained when we were struggling, he has carried the burden as striker through the season and has done an admirable job with the added bonus he is getting better every game and he still chips in with important points winning goals.

There is more to a modern day striker than being an out and out scorer, the tactics we are playing dictate we in the main have a loan striker, direct your angst elsewhere because we won't be playing two strikers very often and I for one am quite happy with this lad as he is.

He doesn't score that many goals because we don't create that many chances. If he was missing sitters left right and centre I could see the cause for concern.

..that striking ability tends to be natural, supported by years of street footy so it will have been there for Kane and Shearer. They were probably prolific goalscorer at schoolboy and youth level before they made the step up. Fowler was similar, hardly any backlift but the ball travels so sweetly. Saw Fowler playing in the Lancashire League at Bellefield and he was very good. Yakubu was another of those.

Lineker and Rush were a little different (in my opinion). Those two were absolute predators, based on super quick reaction. Most of the goals they scored were just inside the post, they had a picture in their mind where the goal is and where the goalie would be.

Fine Eggs, should have put Rooney in with that bunch IMO a mixture of all!

There is indeed more to a modern day striker than just scoring goals. Great strikers can do IT ALL. But great strikers all have 1 thing in common, it is the MAIN point of them being on the field: Scoring goals.

DCL does a lot of things well, but much like a modern CB, while a great one can not only play defence but can pass well, score on corners, and dribble, if that modern CB cant play defence, none of the rest makes them great, only above average.

First things first. For too long we have ignored that. Its time to be more than just above average.

Thats great hes not missing sitters, but great strikers arent considered great because when everyone else makes things happen they can finish easy chances. We can sign anyone to sit in front of goal and finish great passes and sitters. Great strikers also make their own goals, and they make their teamates look better. DCL does a lot of things well, and I have hopes in a couple of seasons he will turn into that.

Its amazing how low our standards are here... especially considering our motto.

So who do you suggest could be this 'Great' striker? and how much do you suggest they would cost?

I would suggest that a 'Great striker is rarely on the market especially in January and if they were they would be up around the £90m we got for Lukaku which has now gone therefore we could not afford, I am happy with DCL and I see him only getting better all round, I also see a long term future for him here.

Time will tell PT, I understand where your coming from but we do not have the resources to meet your needs, one day though my friend, one day.
