As has been said, i’ve yet to see him strike a ball with any conviction. I’d like to see him take the odd free kick.

His control of the ball has been very good lately, but there are obvious deficiencies in his game that need lots of work. Time will tell I guess. Warming to him after he ran 30 yards to give Fer a bump after Kenny’s foul the other night.

3 goals in 13 starts and 5 as sub is not the sign of a striker that can take us up a level. Niasse is more prolific. He is not ready yet we need better at this moment and Benteke is one possibility that fits the bill, Giroud is another. DCL's time will come

2013–14[161] Premier League
19 apps 4 goals

Can you guess who stats they are? I mean just to compare him to a player his age, at the time.

For a striker that:

A. Doesn't take penalties or set pieces
B. Has provided 4 assists in the league
C. Contributed to several other goals with his link up play and won several penalties
D. Is 20 freakin years old
E. Plays in a system designed to be impossible for the lone striker to have much impact
F. Played on a team that was absolutely god awful for a very large portion of the season
G. Has had very few opportunities to shoot as he is marked out
H. Is still a bit of a string bean
I. Is finally starting to come into form
J. Is 20?
K. Is 20 years old?
L. We aren't even half way through the season? 20?

He has done okay. I don't think there are too many strikers that would have done much better under the circumstances. Oumar (while effective) didn't have any pressure coming into the team and scored against some mediocre outfits to say the least. Dom's finishing has held him back, but I suspect we will see improvement as the season wears on. He is young. He is effective. He has been very decent after our horrible start.

A good question posed to those that don't rate him or don't think he'll ever turn good:

If an offer came in for him in January and we sold him, would you care?

I would care... I think he could be good. But like in the Barkley thread "Barkley is as good as scholes, lampard and gerrard" , DCL is apparently the next sharp or Kane... he has qualities and therefore potential But he's not good enough yet to be playing 90mins every week at the moment. We need a first choice striker

3 goals and 4 assists?

His finishing is terrible mate. His goal against Huddersfield was tame and weak until it got deflected in. He's missed 1 on 1's. It's not just the misses , it's the way they are missed, they have no power and are tame and weak and aren't even going towards the corners. He's not a natural goal scorer IMO

He seems to do pretty much everything well except score goals at this point. I think a lot of that has to do with how poorly we’ve played overall until recently. I agree with those that are saying at this moment, he isn’t ready to take us to the next level, but i’m good with not bringing in a striker and letting DCL develop for the rest of the year because we aren’t going anywhere this year regardless.

Neither has DCL except to show a little promise. If we have to rely on DCL then we will be in trouble. He is not yet ready as a lone striker, he is green and raw.
That seems a little harsh, he's done fantastically well for his age and experience. I agree we need a proven striker to come in and help out but I'm not sure benteke is the answer.
