Thought he could have taken that one on his left side and driven into the box further. Second was a nice shot, inches wide.

He's not got that killer instinct and his finishing isn't great BUT he was also only on the pitch for 10 mins and he got himself into the position for 2 good chances. If he learns to finish he'd bag a load I feel.

Miles better than Abraham regardless anyway IMO.

..agree, he’s got all the ammunition to become an effective striker.

No mate, he made his chances by moving off the ball, running into space and allowing his team mate to pass to him. Tried an audacious chip to beat the keeper and the second one shot acoss goal that was just wide. Excellent movement imo and was a tad unlucky.

So he had two shots ? Both of which failed to be on target?

Compare his stats with graham sharp’s. Grahams first season ( he was 20) he played 2 games, scored no goals. His second season, (now 21) he played 4 games scored no goals and in his third season as a 22 year old he played 29 games and scored 15 goals. Back then you got used sparingly and spent your time in the reserves learning your trade. Nowadays you’re thrown in with the sharks and expected to be an instant success. I find that quite sad really, so many good kids must have their confidence shattered by the weight of expectation?

I (like some esteemed posters) couldn't understand how he was getting on the pitch at the beginning...

Then he improved dramatically and now seems like a very good forward.

However, he needs to improve his finishing to really be considered as a future 1st choice for us. That being said, if he continues improving as he has been then I see no reason why he cant achieve anything he aspires to.

A statistical comparison between a young Sharp and DCL does not reflect favourably on DCL or his prospects of eventually emulating Sharp's goal scoring ability. You used league stats for Sharp so here are the equivalents for DCL.
DCL's first season (he was 19/20) he played 11 games scoring 1 goal. In his second season so far (now turned 21) he's played 29 and scored 4. So after 35 games Sharp had scored 15 goals whereas after 40 games DCL has only returned 5.
To be fair to DCL he's a year younger than Sharp was, was played on the wing initially and thrust into the striker's position because we failed to buy a forward last summer however there's nothing in the stats thus far to suggest DCL is even remotely close to being the goal scorer Sharp was and Sharp wasn't considered a truly prolific striker.
I hope DCL is obsessivly hard working about improving his strike rate otherwise it's hard to see how he'll have a career as a Premiership striker.

I wasnt comparing him to sharpy in terms of talent or potential, simply making the point that Sharpy’s relative protection from the spotlight in those first few seasons is something few younger players are afforded nowadays.

The young players today are our stars of tomorrow...

Can't we sing these kind of praises when "the young players of today" actually become stars instead of blindly saying something like this? Young players becoming first team regulars in a premier league side is a massive lottery, it hardly ever happens. Out of all of the young players that we have in and around the first team now and out on loan, a betting man would probably say that about 2 of them, maybe, might have futures at this club. Can we just find out what happens first before blurting out that young players will be guaranteed stars, as if it's some kind of settled science (which it definitely isn't).

Well then you'd have to say 'the stars of today were yesterday's youth' which is not what the original poster meant and you have in fact taken this way too far in the opposite direction.
