2017/18 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Thought he could have taken that one on his left side and driven into the box further. Second was a nice shot, inches wide.

He's not got that killer instinct and his finishing isn't great BUT he was also only on the pitch for 10 mins and he got himself into the position for 2 good chances. If he learns to finish he'd bag a load I feel.

Miles better than Abraham regardless anyway IMO.

That's not hard, absolute atrocity him.

DCL imo will mature into a top player in 2/3 years time...
He is a quick, strong forward who scores goals & assists he is good in the air & has a great attitude...
He is still only 21 & has shown considerable development since last year...
We must support him & encourage him to improve & gain confidence during his development to reap the rewards during his maturity & peak performance age 24-28...
We will then have a top striker on our hands...

No. Never going to be a top player. Sorry

Respect your opinion...
However DCL is only 21 so we need to wait 2/3 years before that decision can be properly assessed...

He does have all the attributes...

Pace, attitude, strength, aggression, assists, goals & has already gained international & premiership experience under his belt...

DCL has tremendous potential imo looking forward to him maturing & scoring goals for us along the way....

Spot on matey!

It’s one thing to say someone isn’t ready. It becomes a problem when everyone predicts the future of a 21 year old that has less than a full season of minutes under his belt. It’s as if our fans want the young players to fail. For me, he could do with a loan or something. His finishing obviously needs some work, but he has the physical attributes to be a solid player down the line.

Just been looking at some posts from June 2013, England u20s playing. Barkley and Stones were playing- and so was Harry Kane. Kane was getting slaughtered for the chances he was missing. One poster even saying Chris Long would do a better job- what do we know.? Worth searching and having a look.
Should give DCL a chance, we dont know how good or bad he will be.

His finishing is the only thing that is lacking....needs to learn that ruthless instinct in front of goal.

But yeah agreed he has all the tools

Does his finishing need work though?

I have never seen him as a player who squanders chances, to me he is more of a player who doesn't get goal scoring chances very often. It's not like he is missing sitters every week.

Agree with this, I personally wouldn't call his finishing into question. His issues lie around decision making - same as most young players.

One thing that's struck me is that he doesn't get phased easily - seems quite cool in the one on one situations and so on which to me is probably the most important attribute for a young striker as it's the one that people don't seem to able to learn well.

We shouldn't be offering a young striker like DCL 35 games next season to prove his worth. If we do he'll cost us a lot of points because he's nowhere near ready. We need players who are capable of putting the ball into the back of the net. If people think the best move is for DCL to stay with us and get the odd 20/30 minutes off the bench, then I wholeheartedly disagree that that's the best course of action for him to realise his potential. He needs to play week in week out, and the best place for that is in a team at his current level, which may be Championship or bottom half of the Premier League, on loan of course. Same with Davies.
