Got an assist for the goal and should have had another from a brilliant cross if Bolasie didn't have a ten bob head.

Got to be honest I don't get the negativity over him against City. Thought he did alright considering what he was up against.

But it's what we do these days I suppose.
Not saying much, was literally a 5 yard pass and even then it looked like he was trying to play it out wide rather than into bolasie

Come on, you can blame the tactics but that was as bad as it gets. He was completely and utterly ineffective.

Don't think he played badly but he looked like a fish out of water, found himself in pockets of space when city had the ball, hope he learns to improve his off ball game.

Other than the assist for the goal and the assist for the Bolasie miss that should have been a goal?

How can he be utterly ineffective when he set up our goal and should have set up another one?

He had a pinpoint cross to Bolasie that he butchered. We should have been even or ahead? Can’t remember what the score was at that point. His service from out wide is very decent, but he can’t keep fudging break always like he did shortly after.

Should have been an equaliser, but instead they went up the pitch and were 2-0 up within 10 seconds of the resulting goal kick. It was a great ball in by DCL to be fair.

The assist for the goal was just a stat really, nothing more. He made space for himself well on the edge of the box with a nice turn, and then was looking for Bolasie to make a run in behind so he could play him in. But Bolasie wanted the ball to feet (as he always does) so in the end he just knocked it to him before he lost possession himself.

Thought overall he had a quiet game and I'm guessing he had as much idea as we did as to was his actual role was. I bet they didn't do much work on it on the training ground seeing as most of the forward players didn't get back until Thursday. I thought he was no worse than Bolasie, Tosun or Walcott, but I don't see the latter two getting much stick for their performances. And given their experience and the fact they were playing in their normal positions, you could say they are both getting off pretty cheaply whilst we take our wrath out on the easier targets as per usual.

DCL has fantastic potential imo...

Best position is striker....just needs to develope that killer instinct & ruthless edge...

He will become a top player for Everton I have no doubt....

And this is why nobody should pay attention to assist stats and judge each case individually.

By this logic check out this world class assist from Anderson...

Sigh....I don't pay attention to stats at all.

All I saw was in a rubbish game he should/could have set up two goals so obviously his performance wasn't quite as ineffective as some are making out.

“One little nugget for Calvert-Lewin fans - no #efc player has been directly involved in more goals in all competitions this season than DCL. He has 8 goals & 6 assists (level with Wayne Rooney who has 11 & 3)” - from Paul Brown via Twitter
