I was prepared for that because it backs my point up about strikers taking time to mature, I purposely picked the Premier leagues best 2 strikers because at Dominics age they were wet behind the ears and not the prolific scorers that they became, mind you they were bedded in properly over the course of a few years and not expected to carry the striking burden in their first seasons.
There are a few issues with that though.

Firstly, as has been said numerous times, this isn’t just a numbers thing. My concern about whether DCL will score enough goals to be our main striker is not just based on his figures, but on what I actually see. His movement, reactions, composure, initial instinct etc don’t look to me like those of a natural finisher.

Secondly, shearers numbers are better than you suggest if you don’t just look at his record in the league. His birthday is in August so entire seasons take place where he’s the same age - in the one when he was 20 he scored 14 goals in all competitions, at 21 he scored 14 in the league and 21 in all. DCL is 21 and has 8 in all so far.

Thirdly, and most importantly for me, is the suggestion that we’re somehow asking too much of a 21 year old to play regularly. Why? Shearer wasn’t being slowly bedded in at all, he played 48 games while he was 20. Lukaku was leading the line for us at 20 after doing it for West Brom at 19, while Jesus, rashford, Abraham etc are all younger than DCL and playing at least as much if not more. We might have asked too much of him because of his level of ability, but certainly not because of his age.

I’ve said before that I think he’ll make a decent player but I don’t apologise for expecting someone who gets picked for the Everton first team to be good enough to justify it. He doesn’t get a pass for missing sitters because he’s ‘only’ 21.

That really was a bad miss. Got to be putting those type of opportunities away. Not as bad as his Stoke miss from a yard out where luckily Tosun followed up with a good finish, but he got that horribly wrong.

Shame, lots to work on the training ground which I'm sure he will be doing

DCL is progressing well...

Will be a great striker in 2/3 years imo..

He has got it all, strength, pace, goals, assists, heading ability & a great attitude...

The finishing & killer instinct will come we just need to be patient...

I don’t think he’ll ever be first choice for us, I don’t think he’ll ever be prolific but I do think he’ll turn into a quality FORWARD player. There are about 1,000 positions on the pitch these days and I wouldn’t ever label him as a striker. He seems to be more of a facilitator of other players which I’m fine with. I respected the job people like Marcus Bent and Kevin Davies did for their sides. Heck even Dunc was hardly prolific.

Isn’t a lone forward, shouldn’t be a lone forward and I won’t blame us not winning yesterday solely on him.

The thing is Shearer probably did have more natural ability than DCL, it wasn't a direct comparison, secondly I highly doubt Shearer was asked to play left wing or wing back in some of his games and you also have to look at how the team is performing, We don't create that many chances we have no creativity therefore he is feeding off scraps most of the time.

My point was that Shearer and Henry were not prolific at that age, that they were used sparingly and matured in their early 20's. I absolutely said it was not a direct comparison which you have chosen to do in your reply.

I just don't see anything that stands out and catches my eye . Lookman shows a very good touch and turn of pace and has shown he can hit a ball from distance as well as having very quick feet and is good in tight areas. That caught my eye and shows potential . DCL shows he can't hit the target and doesn't have conposure. He can run fast in a straight line and is very fit and can challenge in the air ( only off GK kicks tho) but these traits aren't hard to find and don't really stand out as being good enough to balance out the weak parts of his game. Cahill wasn't a technically good player and he got by on determination , attitude, and heart , all qualities which DCL has. Cahill wouldn't have made it with just these tho, he was immense in the air both defending and attacking and scored goals in tight games (like yesterday) DCL doesn't have the same knack and tbh not many do... it's rare and costs a lot of money. DCL doesn't have anything that stands out IMO , if he were to play for westham for example and we wanted to buy him , how much would you spend? 5m? 10m? Because that's what I would class him as... he is a Watford , stoke level player or at least he will be eventually. He will be a prem player but not a good one

Yet he's been probably one of our better players in a team full of expensive flops.

He's an academy player that has been effective, led the line for half a season, improved each game. He's got years of development left.

Compare him to Solanke, his under 21 team mate, he's streets ahead in the premier league.

Should be moulded into a winger or a wing back. Fast, strong, athletic, good on the ball but cant finish to save his life

Horrendous shout.

He's athletic, wouldnt say particularly strong as he gets muscled out loads. He's fairly average to crap on the ball, can't trap it, doens't hold it up well.

Any opposition supporter that he's played a portion against this season can't believe he's getting gametime.

He works hard and causes problems with is pace, which is to his credit, but he has nothing after that.

Disagree. Most young strikers can score but lack composure. He's got no natural goalscoring ability.

I haven’t made it a direct comparison at all, i’ve Just used the exact same figures as you! I was simply pointing out that even if we take Shearer as a decent example of your point, it’s important to note that his numbers were a little better than you intimated.

You’re literally responding to a post in which i’ve informed You that Shearer was playing more than DCL by arguing that Shearer was being bedded in slowly and DCL isn’t. Did that make more sense in your head than it does on the screen?
