2017/18 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

At the same age
Louis Saha had scored 6 goals in 57 games for Newcastle & Metz
Van Nistelrooy had scored 17 in 71 for Den Bosh
Alan Shearer 23 in 118 games for southampton
Stan collymore 1 goal in 20 for crystal palace
Daniel Sturridge 12 goals in 47 games
Harry Kane 12 in 47 games

Obviously im selecting ones that suit my argument because we could all look at Rooney, Fowler, Owen etc.
But just slagging the lad off when he has clear potential is just stupid

I reckon what really helps him is people comparing him to Kane and Shearer. This is the sort of nonsense that piles pressure on him.
Let him develop his game. But let that be at Crewe or something. He has no place in our team.

Although there is the odd exception - most top strikers scored goals from the off during their career. In fact I would suggest they are better when they are younger as they have no fear - god help Calvert Lewin hell be a 3 goal a season man when hes no longer a youngster!

I actually said if he had 2 more goals in the league he would have practically 1 in 3.

You want to punt him and Davies...2 England u21 internationals who are highly rated by every manager they could have ever played for...

Interesting...
Oh yes, and if he had 4 more goals he would practically have 1 in 2.5! And if he had 6 more goals, he would practically have 1 in 2! And if he had 16 more goals, he would practically have 1 in 1!

But he doesnt have more goals, because he missed them from 2 feet away.

So again, after saying that he ALREADY has a good scoring record, you argue that "well, he WOULD have one if he had just scored more goals"...

DOMINIC CALVERT JIGSAW
Available to buy or loan

WARNING: May go to pieces in the box

I'd loan him out and hope he bangs a few goals in against slower defences. He needs to bulk up a bit too.

His pace isn't an issue though.

It's general composure/timing.

There's no need for a loan.

He's more than good enough to be our third-choice forward. He's earned that right with his work this season.

If some of our senior, more talented individuals had DCL's attitude, we wouldn't be as crap as we are.

I rarely defend @Zatara's wild theories but in this case, it's not like it's ridiculous to say DCL should have two more goals this season.

I can think of two sitters off the top of my head he's missed - the other day and the one that Tosun eventually scored from v Stoke.

Nobody is saying the lad's brilliant. But the stick he gets on here from posters who for some reason have turned into bad FIFA biffs overnight once we got some money is ridiculous.

One of the only players to come out of this season with any modicum of self-respect.

He has to improve. But he hasn't done bad.

Solanke hasn't scored a goal for the Sh*** this season yet - and while this is the cultish behaviour we mock them for - you don't see them slating him at every opportunity.

We're the polar opposite with DCL, who has been chucked into leading our line for the majority of the season after our failure to replace the £90m, 25-goal-per-season striker we sold last summer, and has had to do it with players supporting him that simply couldn't be arsed for the vast majority. Throw into that under three pretty clueless managers and playing in a variety of positions - hardly ever the same position 3 games running either.

He's not done bad, all things considered.
