I like in a very multicultural part of California with lots of immigrants (both legal and illegal) and by and large it seems be working out pretty well so we'll just have to agree to disagree.

I'm not saying it doesn't. I'm just saying that it changes the culture that was there before. Not necessarily for the worse. Just different.

But change is not only necessary, but it's fundamentally good. We have to change. Stagnation is death. We have to strive to be better, to improve. And if we've hit our limits on what we can do, then we need to aim to bring everyone to the same level, and push for that.

Why?

Simply put, because we are not individuals. We are a complex social organism. And when the entire society improves and grows, it fundamentally improves the lives of the individual members. We are strongest together, with ideas flowing between us. New ideas come from different cultures and different worldviews. If we do not entertain new cultures, then we limit our pool of ideas...and entropy takes over.

Seriously, a lovely sentiment which my idealistic side fully agrees with. In reality, things are lot more complex. The key is understanding what's going on while striving for this ideal, for not all influences are good.

Seriously, a lovely sentiment which my idealistic side fully agrees with. In reality, things are lot more complex. The key is understanding what's going on while striving for this ideal, for not all influences are good.

And Rome brought the Mediterranean Pax Romana and all manner of social positives before it spiraled down the toilet due to a myriad of factors.

I agree that things are complex, but also believe that people generally just want to get on with their lives and survive. If you are willing to let them do so, they very rarely cause trouble. And the benefits of that are far greater than the risks.

I'm a nihilist, honestly, but that doesn't mean when we're commenting on the problems of multiculturalism I can't draw the conclusion that the problems stem from people having problems with it. Turns out when you act hostile to a group of people sometimes those groups become hostile in turn.

That doesn't solve TODAY's problems, they are plentiful, but throwing good money after bad (as it were) seems like a bad solution.
