I have to disagree. That's fine if you don't intend to have much immigration.

No one cares about having a Chinatown etc It brings flavor and nice food. However when there's mass immigration you need to integrate and America has always in the past tried to spread around it's new immigrants to aid in this. It's only recently that no longer happens.
This is very much untrue. Both the Irish and the Italians were on the bad end of this behavior recently. And they retained their own culture for generations - some of it still exists, like the fact that there are a load of Catholics in the northeast - that's not from the initial bunch.

That's without touching on how much East Asian immigration has impacted the west coast, or eastern European immigration more recently to New York.

Assimilation has ALWAYS taken generations, and has never been complete.

No it's not. Welcoming immigrants certainly but America was founded on certain principles and one culture. Principles and a culture based on the enlightenment.

Oh I agree.

That said immigrants from all over the world come to this country and abide by our laws and become part of our culture. That said our culture is enriched and changed for the better because of it.

The difference between now and then is not that immigrants were spread around - they tended to cluster in a few areas - its that most people wanting to migrate previously took a legal route, whereas now it seems that most take an illegal route. They do this because it is more successful, and because Western governments do not punish those that do.

I disagree with your conclusion vis a vis Trump.

I completely agree with your statement regarding bombing the hell out of things. We need to stop telling people how they can or cannot govern themselves. It's a nasty business we got into at the end of WWII, and we need to get out of it.

I'm done with the cycle of revenge. Deal with the incidents as they arise, take the high road, and eventually everyone realizes the other guy is the ahole and your problem gets solved properly.

Hear Hear! Was never on board to start with. I felt sick when Hollande's reaction to the awful awful terror attack in Paris was to mindlessly bomb somewhere far away.

Regarding Trump, what he has going for him is an interest to work with Putin. Going by (translated) Putin speeches he is an analyst, not an ideologist. There might be hope there.

Which is why more than a few Hispanic Americans aren't happy with the amnesty idea. They have jumped through all the hoops and waited years only to see those who came illegally get rewarded.
They have a damn good point too.

The point I was making was they used to make attempts to quicken the process of immigration. Now they don't and declare it fine for people to retain their own culture. If anything they are forcing people back to their original identities.

It is when it's done right. Identity politics and multiculturalism isn't doing it right in my opinion.

The latest " he felt my left breast" allegation is quite embarrassing. The man is a [Poor language removed], but this character assassination is cringeworthy.
Why did she wait until after the debate when all the others have already came out making accusations. I'm reminded of baroness Warsi "defecting" to the remain camp.

Ofcourse they do. They also know it's going to drive down their wages.
