A good blend but put Allan/Gomes in there and its the same problems we've had for years - 1 player at most in midfield with any pace/mobility.

I always liked him as a footballer, and always felt he made the most of himself. There always the debate of Lampard/Gerrard/Scholes, which honestly I probably have Lampard at the bottom of. But what I'll say, is in terms of natural ability he was at the bottom, but it terms of maximising his talent he is better than all of them, (which is no small fete, as Gerrard and Scholes didn't waste their careers).
 
I dont think VDB is a bad player, but i do think hes similar to Klaassen in that he fits the Ajax play style perfectly. We dont play like Ajax, might not be any better for us than for manure.

Cant see us getting anyone else in other than this fella tbh.

I do think we need someone with a bit of creativity in the middle of the park but we desperately need a ball winner / Gana Type to shield that fragile defence of ours.

Allan is alright but he needs pace around him but so will VDB which means Doucoure having to run himself into the ground.

In a midfield 3 in the PL you need atleast 2 of our 3 CM's to be mobile/quick enough to get up and down the field thats been our problem for years.

If Lampard had played for Liverpool and had the numbers and trophies he had at Chelsea, and Gerrard played for Chelsea with his numbers and trophies, would there be any debate about who was better?

Lampard did it more regularly, in more big games, and won more. Gerrard just didn’t turn up often enough in the league.
 

Comparing him to Gomes is way off the mark. Vdb is physically tougher, faster, dribblers better, pass better and more variety in his play.

Can he solve our problems? I’m not sure but he is definitely a better player than Gomes.
