Drenthe ..sacked ?

Some people either don't listen or see the warning signs glaring in their face... when Jose Mourinho tells you he's washed his hands of a player or he offers out a well balanced, skilled ,energetic player for apparently no-apparent reason. The alarm bells should be deafening. People in the footballing world knew the track records of both Drenthe and Balotelli and how Jose held up his hands and publicly announced that Mario was unworkable and petulant, yet Mancini snapped him up and thought he could 'tame' him. Others across Europe must of swallowed hard when then read that Moyes was about to do the same with Royston.

I think, we have just to admit that we got burned on this one, invariably the rumours will persist as to why he was 'omitted' and 'disciplined' by the club on the eve our most important game for three years. But we are Everton, we need to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves down and just move on... Right, whose got Landon's number on speed dial ?

If you're implying that we lost the semi final because of Drenthe, I might imply that I might disagree.

If I've got it wrong, I'll give you 1 rep point :D

no. I'm saying he is a character. And he should koff cause made us luv him and then disrespected moyess and the club, and us.
Pienaar was more of a factor in that loss.
Too many cocky footystars out there with no respect. Good that moyes showed him his place...

But people don't know why or what he has done, turned up late? pissed? on the colombias finest??.

Say for instance Moyes, for the last week leading up to the game had plans for Drenthe to start, be a pivotal member of the team to lead the counter attack and hit liverpool hard down the left and spoke to him and informed that he wanted im in for training to go over some specific stuff and Drenthe ignored is MANAGERS request and did what he wanted.....i'm sorry boys but its about the only time i'd stick up for Moyes and say he was right. More resposibility needs to lay on Roystons shoulders rather than managers.

It may sound like poor timing, but until we know exactly what went on I would defend Moyes first, regardless of his **** bag tactics which ruined my year

Mancini knows more about Mario than anyone, he had him from being a kid at Inter, and it's not just a case of both being there at the same time as he was in charge of the youth team containing him.

He turned up late for training...again. He's been a ball bag. He's been a ball bag from day one....the question is: why choose to bring the axe down on a potent player two days before the semi-final if he's just being his usual ball bag self?

Apparently, that's a question we should avoid asking...instead we should all just go with the flow on calling Drenthe a ball bag (already well established by now of course) and forget that troublesome question...because it highlights the manager's poor all-round judgement on the issue I'm guessing.

For him to do it on the eve of the biggest game of the season I can only see that he had a specific role ready for Drenthe and Drenthe has totally ****ed him over; Moyes be may be a lot of things but to do it so close to a big game, for me, suggests it needed to be done.

Again, if it was SAF, before a CL final, Drenthe would have been dropped and never set foot inside Old Trafford again. The players need to know who the boss is.

There where still 11 players out there who where more than capable of winning that game, Moyes got his tactics in the 2nd half wrong again, it had nothing to do with Drenthe; infact if Drenthe decided to act like a mjor ball bag leading up to one of our biggest games then I never want to see him in a blue shirt again, I guarantee he didn't go through the hurth what I went through on the way home form Wembley, it was disgusting and the worse feeling ever

Moyes got it wrong on a number of levels. I agree. Just isolating the Drenthe stuff though: the decision to drop him was for his woeful bog standard time-keeping he'd annoyed Moyes with all season (if that isn't the case, and I'm led by others via PM to believe it is, then I stand to be corrected on that). As fas as SAF is concerned: as has already been said - he can afford to discipline players because he has ready made replacements in spades in all positions. Moyes hasn;t had that luxury - and it's why he didn't bin Drenthe earlier in the season. He made that choice to put up and suffer him. The question is: wtf was he doing waiting until just before he could be of use to us off the bench in our biggest game before pulling the trigger? Part of a manager's job is to use his nous when he should or shouldn't load up that gun. Moyes failed the test completely as far as I'm concerned, and it just underlines his poor judgement generally when the chips are down and he has to make the right call.

Maybe it was just a way of taking away the pressure of having to use/pick him. he knows the fans wanted him to play but he doesn't fancy him. maybe this was an easier option.

Not saying this is the reason But?

It would make more sense as an explanation than we've heard so far mate.

Maybe he'd have been a great option off the bench; maybe he'd have done nothing off the bench. It should have been an option.
That was a bigger misdemeanour and a bigger problem for us than some tit turning up late for the last training session at FF.

I for one wont forget this decision by Moyes. He has no idea of the importance of these fixtures and that winning them is everything. If he did, he wouldn't have sacrificed our options on the bonfire of his own vanity. Before this I'd have waved Moyes off when he went with a thanks for his earlier work at the club. Now I just want to see the back of him, his enormous ego and the chronic lack of judgement that goes hand in hand with it.

..and while we're at it: I expect more from an Everton manager after a big loss than to simply point the finger at a couple of players to explain that loss away and to hide his own frailities behind. I've seen enough of this feller to know he's a coward at heart.

The bit in bold i agree with, 10000000000%.

However Dave there has got to be more than 'he didn't turn up to training' to justify the reason for him not being in the squad, Moyes maybe a blurt, but he wanted silverware this season (he proved that with the team he put out against RS at Analfield) and I only think people close to the club will 100% know the real reason. We can all speculate but the majority of us will never know.

My anger for this is with Drenthe, he his a professional and should act that way, especially on the eve of Semi Final. Moyes, as always, bottled it and ****ed it up, Drenthe ****ed the fans over by acting like an immatue child when he could have just acted like a professional for one week, got focussed and give a performance of a life time at one the biggest stages in the world

I just want to know the exact details of what happened. For all we know Moyes could just be being a bad tit...i doubt it though. With Drenthe's history, and Moyes' reluctance to deal with players with his attitude, I'm really surprised Moyes bought him to us in the first place. He should have prepared himself for this to happen, but it looks like he didn't. I'm blaming both Moyes and Drenthe. Drenthe for (allegedly) acting like a child, and Moyes for not managing him better. I would do what Mancini does when Balotelli acts like a child and go to the media and point out exactly what a **** he is...

Has that done anything to sort out Balotelli's behaviour?
