Like you say mate (and this happens in any job where you are on a warning), if the said dude turns up with what appears to be a valid excuse the benefit of doubt is afforded, when it is apparent that he is either spinning one or doesn't have a valid excuse then the wheels grind into motion again, starting from where they came to a stop.

Would you have preferred Moyes to do to Drenthe, what Di Canio has done to almost all of his team there? (honest question...). There's real comparisons to our own situation - Swindon could have been promoted with a win.
Publicly slating players might get a reaction/warn others they're out - and might go to appeasing the fans, but it also demonstrates to those higher up and outside the club you're not really in control of your team.
Keeping things private frustrates the supporters but does help to maintain a professional air. Many owners and professionals alike would not want their dirty laundry airing in public. My employers have, and continue to sack people who say and do things which have a negative effect on the reputation of the company.
I would like SOME statement from the club - at least telling us officially he's gone.
