Duncan Ferguson the coach

..personally, I think there is too much nepotism at Everton and the club should employ coaches based on their coaching ability rather than being ex-players. Ferguson, Unsworth, Tait, Jeffers, Jevons, Ebbrell etc.

Be interesting to see how much Silva uses Ferguson as a counsel during games or whether he’s a bit of a spare part.

Exactly.

And you can almost guarantee that Baines and Jagielka are presently negoitiating that route with the club too.

And they deserve a coaching job...after all, look at how many games they've played for Everton!!!

Farce the way this club is run.

..I don’t mind ex-players using the club to get their coaching badges but it doesn’t mean they should then be employed. We really are too heavily weighted with ex-players.

This sticks of Bill to me, Everton fam, and all that.

I love Dunc, but I really dont care if he is on the staff or not.

It'd be interesting to know what the % of ex-players are on the coaching staff of other PL clubs. I'd guess it wouldn't be as large as at this club....and consistently over time.

That "family" club side to Everton is a double edged sword. It comes with a lot of hangers on and the failure to bring in expertise.

I understand that idea, but then I would expand that further, to say why do we just allow managers to bring their own staff with them all the time? What are the chances that a few lads who played together and became mates when they were in the Portuguese lower leagues all just happened to turn into world class coaches. Nil I would say.

Silva brought his own staff because he trusts them (and wants to give them a meal ticket if we're being perfectly honest) while ex-players are employed because they bring a 'connection' to the club. If we actually want the best coaches available then I would imagine they'd all have to go and Brands would need to identify the best goalkeeping, fitness etc coaches in the world. Can't see it happening any time soon.

Even in that worse case scenario (which I'd reject), such a group of coaches would bring an objectivity to the club that insiders would never allow themselves to bring.
