I see, according to the Star, that we are calling him BIG now.

But he doesn’t does he? Whereas on the right he does actually predictably run into 3 players and lose possession.
Can you do me a favor and count how many times he goes into the corner and gets the ball blocked into touch?

His best moments come when he gets narrower. Maybe he can do that without switching sides but the volume crosser version of McNeil isn't all that good.

I’ve slated him more times than I can count. I’ve usually been right in doing so too

But his form in the last 6 or so matches had been consistently better than average and I can at least see some kind of player there

Keep forgetting he’s so young but hopefully we’ll see him flesh out into a decent player over the coming months.

Same is the usual things with him the lack of pace but always works hard for the team. Also the strike for the goal you want to see him hit it more often.

If it leads to corners then it’s really not a bad option for a team with our height.

On the right hand side McNeill has one option to cut in and shoot or get an in swinging cross from deep in. Defenders know that if they just show him the byline he doesn’t have a right foot or the pace to go past them.

On the left however they can’t show him inside obviously so they have to let him go down the line and it either means crosses coming in or corners.

Mate, drop it, he’s a left midfielder, he’s always been a left midfielder - now that he’s being played left midfield in a set up that suits him, instead of wide left forward like under Frank, he’s actually showing good form.

A good tip for any player is always start out terrible so that slightly less terrible is viewed as good.

He's more productive because he's on set plays. He should have always been on set plays and he can stay on set plays regardless of his position. He is still a poor player in the final third during open play and this is his primary job.

This is a really sad place to be. You're not wrong at all. But having an attacker viewed as playing well because he's getting crosses blocked for corners is a sad state of affairs.
