ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 2

Liverpool aren't that good, if it wasn't for City messing about against Palace, Leicester and Newcastle it would be a different story and Pickford hadn't given them a goal they would be nowhere near the top. The problem with the premier league is outside of the top six, everyone is pretty rubbish. They'll probably thrash Fulham on Sunday, whereas in the past clubs fighting for their safety would give them a game. Sadly there are just too many clubs who don't really have much to play for, so it's pretty easy for clubs like Liverpool and Man City to win games.

You’re talking out of your hoop, mate. Teams like City and Liverpool beat other teams because they’re miles better than them. Liverpool wouldn’t have accumulated as many points as they have if they weren’t a very good team. Pointless denying it. Makes you look clueless.

Just seen this draw now.

I'm absolutely delighted with it.

That's another 4 games in this competition and they'll be like a ball and chain around their ankles in trying to win the PL.

...and they still wont win the CL. Barcelona will take no messing about this season with Madrid out the way. They're hungry and have their eyes on a historic treble only ever completed by Guardiola's 2008/09 team and Enrique's 2015/16 team. Valverde and his players will be burning passionately to go down in history.

What Dave says, in his normal calm and logical way, makes perfect sense but I hope Porto stuff them home and away 'cos I hate those 'great' Analfield nights with its 'red hot' atmosphere and the crowd 'like an extra man', the Kop 'sucking de ball into de net', and the TV coverage fawning over them while they sing along to that dirge from Carousel. Not to mention Klopp's antics before, during, and after the games and the garbage spouted by the mass of drooling ex-RS in the media.

I won't be watching.

There are two UEFA cartel clubs left in in Juve and Barca and they’ve conveniently been split. As much as Liverpool and United are huge cash cows UEFA look after their own and will hopefully see both teams through to the final. That’s the final they want. No one at UEFA will want City/United, City/Liverpool or Juve/Liverpool as a final.
Yep. I agree.

Juve are due the final bit of rehabilitation they require to distance themselves from the corruption scandal. Barcelona winning writes its own story. UEFA love Barcelona (and Madrid).

I work with a load of Liverpool and Man Utd fans and it really sticks in the throat to see them banging on about the CL draw all morning and getting all giddy while this club sits a million miles away from that level. Three North West clubs in the draw, we really are the very poor relations.

And I really don't why some on here keep insisting this or that team will 'defo' beat the RS as they are usually wrong. Knowing how fortunate that shower are I totally dismiss any 'assurances' about who will beat them until they are actually out.

Its nothing new that. I got ragged at school by Kopites in the 70s when they were on the up and we definitely werent. And I remember me and my Evertonian mates still saying then theyd get beat by x/y/z. When they play well I say so...because its the truth. But its the grotesque circus and melodrama that always swirls round them that now makes me want to say x/y/z will beat them, not any jealousy or lack of acknowledging we are the poor relations. I wont kiss their arses though yet actually enjoy the comedy of their snowballing hysteria, sense of entitlement and tendency sometimes for the anti climax of defeat.

I wouldn't rule it out, tbf...or at least edge past them. Won their group (5 wins 1 draw - in admittedly a weak group), piled up more group stage points than any other team in this season's CL, then beat a decent team like Roma over two legs.

I can’t imagine another two weeks of relentless build up and the depression at the thoughts of them actually winning the darned thing as we head towards the final.

Just beat them please, Porto.
They wont get to the final mate. Rest assured.

I think you don't have a grasp of worldwide audiences. In most countries Man Utd, RS, even Arsenal and Chelsea have much more fans than Juventus or even Barca. City are catching up quickly.
The more fans, the more tv revenue. UEFA would love Man U or RS in the final, preferably both.

It is total lunacy for anyone to be that confident. Even though the RS look a very plainly average, long ball team when watching them, they do not concede many goals at all and when you don't concede goals - you've got a chance against anyone.

They've practically got a bye into a champions league semi final with this draw. Why anyone here is doing cartwheels at this news I'll never know.
I wish we were an average long ball team then.

Barca estimated fans worldwide - 450 million

Liverpool estimated fans worldwide - 100 million

Guess who UEFA want in their final?
