ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 2

I think the obligatory contract extension at the pit is away of the players saying “give me a release clause coz I’m off when the big boys come calling”

I’ll still prepare for the solution media posts of hows a kopite through and through and will never leave

Just hope he goes to city for the giggles
Don't think there is a release clause in the new contract. Just for the sake of objectivity, if he'd refused a new contract, it would be because he plans to leave, but if he signs an extended contract, it's because he wants a big pay year before leaving. How much do you guys wanna convince yourself he'll be gone soon??!!

One of my biggest pet hates these days is Footballers getting massive contract extensions after just one year. It's a bit knee jerk.

He is likely to be a one season wonder anyway, I don't mind that he has re-signed. Would rather he stays and flops than have them get a big transfer fee.

Lol he’s not going to suddenly magically flop ffs, he’s just had his fourth impressive season in a row. Saying hes likely to be a one season wonder is comical when there is no logic or evidence to suggest that will be the case.

A couple of decent seasons with Roma, and one great season with the RS. There is no logic to suggest that he will have another great season. If he repeats his Roma form, it will be nothing special.

Playing In a front three with those players he is always going to get goals. If he played in a 4-5-1 he wouldn't get anWhere.

Stinks of desperation giving a massive new contract after one year.
Standard process for them though, give us another year and if we flop again you can go etc

Let's be clear, it's not an extension, it's a doubling of his salary on the back of one good season. The Egyptian Clive Allen has absolutely rinsed them. This will protect their investment but in 5 years time they'll come to regret it, I fancy.

Pacey players tend to decline earlier than other players and he's not actually young anymore. At the same age Rooney had won the Champions League and the Premier League four times.

When Liverpool reach three decades without the league title the curly haired speedster will realise his career has passed him by. He's got maybe four seasons left, this is a crazy salary and one that far exceeds his talent, there will be a lengthy queue outside Henry's office of agents demanding the same recompense for their players.

Smacks of eggs in one basket, already a thin squad with a dozen players or so about to leave on a free, trying to offload deadwood but nobody wants them due to high wages, the same problem will occur when they realise the sppedy winger was a flash in the pan.

If I was a Liverpool fan I'd be very, very worried. On top of the Coutinho and Salah contracts but everyone else....it's just a mess.

It is a contract extension as he signed a 5 year contract last year. I don't think any Liverpool fans are "very, very worried" or even remotely so.

Your mental gymnastics re: LFC are wonderful. How you manage to put a negative spin on everything and convince yourself that Liverpool will be like Leeds in 2-3 years is truly Walter Mitty-esque!

Great reading though, especially given Everton's predicament the past few years....

lol @Skamp you seem confident you'll be able to keep a player who has played in a similar vein to Suarez, Coutinho etc, what makes you think he is different?

Please refrain from using the following terms

  1. Project
  2. Long Term
  3. Gets the club
Go.
