ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 2

I thought there would be a bigger gap between the teams yesterday. As I said here, I suspected the game would be won 2-0 by them and while patches would have been competitive the result probably not in doubt for large portions.

In the end a big mistake by a goalkeeper and a freak goal separates the teams. As I have said throughout the thread they look fatigued to me and struggled to keep the intensity of the press for much beyond 25 minutes.

If I were to sum up 3 things for them (2 positive 1 negative) I'd say:

1) They have bought a top class goalkeeper. He is better than I first thought when I put him in and around Pickford, he's a couple of years older and that maturity shows. Yes there is undoubtedly some good fortune for them up the top of the league as there is for most teams but that lad makes key interventions at important moments.

2) I give them enormous credit for trying to win yesterday. They had ran out of ideas but were still trying to win. It's hard not to have respect for that.

3) Klopp's antics don't bother me at all, but to me they do show a manager who is emotionally at breaking point. This is especially the case when you factor the rants mid week.
I happen to think he's a likeable guy and enjoy listening to him. However he seems to wear his heart on his sleeve and I don't think his performance yesterday portrays him in a controlled light.

We can all make jokes that he's celebrated beating Everton in a manner akin to Alex Fergusons celebration of United ostensibly clinching the first title in 27 years. While there's some capital to be gained from this I think what you saw is an enormous outpouring of emotion that didn't seem to fit a derby win (even a late derby win). If Silva did it at Goodison while I'd probably be a bit too happy to care, and would laugh about it, I do think it would be a little small time. And we've not won a derby in donkeys years!

I think Klopp is very much on the edge. Like 2 seasons ago when Chelsea's winning run perturbed him I sense Manchester City is much the same. I think a couple of high profile defeats could have a big impact on him.

As for the rest and as I said after the game, well done to Liverpool on there win. They also contributed to a very good game of football. For us the gap is closing and I remain surprised and pleased at the speed this is being done. I suspect the vitriol, mockery and anger that will meet this response is indicative of the concern they can feel at Everton beginning to close the gap on them.
Seriously good post that mate, spot on.

Not bothered by Klopp either but if he does that against Mourinho then WW3 breaks out. I´m not sure how he´d react if another manager did it to him either. Probably wouldn´t be too impressed.

An excellent, measured post. Not a chance anyone from that side would come out with anything as balanced as this.

To counter though, I don't watch a lot of European footy, so only saw his Dortmund side in the odd Champions league game so never really had an opinion on Klopp the person. I knew Klopp had a respected reputation and was gutted Liverpool got him. Within weeks I couldn't understand any Everton fan saying he was in any way likeable. He has always come across as a phoney, arrogant bell, whose mask has slipped more than once that he hides behind this friendly persona. Apart from that I agree with every word.

Big time.

A kopite won't admit it but they were worried and so was Klopp.

I said after the game if that finished a draw, City run off with the title

It's difficult for them, as in most seasons (barring probably 5 or 6) of the last 30 I'd say they stood a really good chance. They would be out in front which they kind of need to be at this stage. I think they can see City are unreal though and that is affecting them.

I think City will be a very difficult task for us. They are easing past teams in 3rd gear. This Liverpool side are straining to the max to scrape wins against a side like us who they always beat.

My impression, even after the goal went in is that they were the weakest side out of the "top 6" this season. There's not a lot in it like but thats how it came across.

Thanks mate and you are entitled to your opinion. I'm sure there are some sensible posters on there side too.

I just find Klopp a likeable character. I saw him with the woman at a petrol station and he stopped to chat to her and wish her son well even though he was an Evertonian and had an easy joke about it. He just comes across as a confident people person. He's probably the nicest manager they've had since Evans for me.

Aye it probably does mate, but then Mourinho isn't in much of a place to talk is he? There are lots of things that bother me about that club but the manager running on to celebrate a winning goal isn't one of them. It's a bit cringey but thats about the worst thing I can say about it.

Am I only the person who wants to break that James Pearce's face? Absolutely can't stand that man for the sheer delusion he writes that gets printed, made even worse by the fact his actual voice is that of annoying Tory sounding t***. Would truly love to injure him badly or hear of someone else doing it.

Yep. No biggie. Sure the kopites will expect special dispensation because kopites, but rules is rules. Otherwise every manager in the PL can just do whatever, whenever.

End of the day they're just another club. :)

Klopps been charged
Meh. Let the FA/ Premier League/ whoever it is deal with it. I wouldn't worry what they are doing. Finally we have a manager who doesn't care what the rs say or do, and concentrates on what we are doing and how to cope with the opponent in hand. Improvements every game!

I know we should be knocking the rs in this thread, but I'm happy with our performance apart from the obvious moment of madness at the end of stoppage time. I can guarantee that they'll be moaning and groaning about the Goodison game and trying to mock and deride us now.

But Origi ... oh the shame to have him score against us. I bet not even Sturidge had advised anyone to put a bet on him. I'd rather have Niasse than Origi ... oh the shame! I would check his stats, but it's probably one goal every 2 years and they're against us ... oh the shame!

Haha there is no way you are the only person. It's a shame I'm not articulate enough to explain what I think about him without swearing. Maybe bute*. Of the highest order.
