ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 2

I thought there would be a bigger gap between the teams yesterday. As I said here, I suspected the game would be won 2-0 by them and while patches would have been competitive the result probably not in doubt for large portions.

In the end a big mistake by a goalkeeper and a freak goal separates the teams. As I have said throughout the thread they look fatigued to me and struggled to keep the intensity of the press for much beyond 25 minutes.

If I were to sum up 3 things for them (2 positive 1 negative) I'd say:

1) They have bought a top class goalkeeper. He is better than I first thought when I put him in and around Pickford, he's a couple of years older and that maturity shows. Yes there is undoubtedly some good fortune for them up the top of the league as there is for most teams but that lad makes key interventions at important moments.

2) I give them enormous credit for trying to win yesterday. They had ran out of ideas but were still trying to win. It's hard not to have respect for that.

3) Klopp's antics don't bother me at all, but to me they do show a manager who is emotionally at breaking point. This is especially the case when you factor the rants mid week.
I happen to think he's a likeable guy and enjoy listening to him. However he seems to wear his heart on his sleeve and I don't think his performance yesterday portrays him in a controlled light.

We can all make jokes that he's celebrated beating Everton in a manner akin to Alex Fergusons celebration of United ostensibly clinching the first title in 27 years. While there's some capital to be gained from this I think what you saw is an enormous outpouring of emotion that didn't seem to fit a derby win (even a late derby win). If Silva did it at Goodison while I'd probably be a bit too happy to care, and would laugh about it, I do think it would be a little small time. And we've not won a derby in donkeys years!

I think Klopp is very much on the edge. Like 2 seasons ago when Chelsea's winning run perturbed him I sense Manchester City is much the same. I think a couple of high profile defeats could have a big impact on him.

As for the rest and as I said after the game, well done to Liverpool on there win. They also contributed to a very good game of football. For us the gap is closing and I remain surprised and pleased at the speed this is being done. I suspect the vitriol, mockery and anger that will meet this response is indicative of the concern they can feel at Everton beginning to close the gap on them.

Klopps celebration was cringey but it didn't bother me really. But his phoney humility after the game when the camera was on him did.

'Hey why you guys film me, film those guys, they did it, I'd never try to hog the limelight me'

Massive massive bell end.

Their goalie is decent tbf. The Gomes save was brilliant but the touch on the ball when Walcott was through was also top notch.

I love how he said he apologised to Silva and Marco just told the media he was chatting wham.

You can’t fluke 38 games. Someone is going to put away these chances that teams are missing against them soon. Either Klopp improves the football by buying in January or their season will be over shortly after Christmas. They’re not playing well enough to win anything.

feels like just need them to lose a game and that could be a catalyst for a few losses, thats exactly whats happened to them in europe...

They're overachieving at this point and they still can't see it. It's going to get worse for them before it gets better.

They’re getting worse. The Liverpool that bullied PSG at home and Spurs away has completely disappeared. They’ve resorted to hopeful punts down the channel and pens/set pieces as their main attacking options. They’re papering over the cracks for now but if the trend continues they won’t win a thing. No one is scared of them any more l and especially not in Europe where Klopp’s one trick pony tactics have been well and truly sorted.

They have a very good defence and a habit of keeping clean sheets, with forwards who are capible of scoring out of nothing, very rarely do there goals come from lovely moves. They tend to come from running really fast and kicking it into a goal! But its working!
Luckily for us (well hopefully anyway) City look like being one of the best Premier League teams ever

They’ve defended in the eagle the same way as in Europe but just not been punished yet. Leicester Fulham City ourselves Huddersfield all had numerous guilt edged chances against them, the type that Red Star PSG and Napoli all tucked home. They haven’t been defending very well. The results will change soon enough because the underlying performances are not there to maintain them.

Im content in the knowledge after watching them today, they aren’t good enough to win anything of consequence.

Have been found out, squeeze the space between midfield and defense and shut down their full backs and you may as well be playing Huddersfield.

Glad we are only 4 months into a new regime.

In good news, it’s the hope that kills you and they are in for some disappointment.

Silva does seem to have klopp's number. First time he's lost to him and well, it was a massive fluke on klopp's behalf. All that money and both of our centre backs were pretty unfazed. Bar mina running in treacle After origi haha.

We have to beat them at home though, I think we will, with a roaring goodison our players will be a lot calmer especially in front of goal.

I'm really hoping Bournemouth give them a game in midweek. They're certainly capable of it.

Great post .

To me Last years goalie they don’t win the game , he made all the difference .

Klopp is a complete bell , he loves it . Loved being the centre of attention and it’s cringeworthy .” Look at me look at , me . Why are you looking at me “
