Make no mistake, this will be a terrible experience for Evertonians if/when they win the PL. They are the Establishment club, and it would be celebrated every bit as much as if England had won the World Cup. The accolades and tv programmes and documentaries wont stop coming for years. They will be presented as "the club that the whole country wanted to see crowned champions". Man Utd have always had the glamour, like some Hollywood star. The showbiz club. Liverpool, though, are the club that are presented as 'traditional' - part of the fabric of everyday English life, like the Queen, the BBC, the Grand National, Marks & Spencer, red telephone boxes, the bulldog.
It is going to come at us, wave after wave of sycophantic adulation. The longer they went without winning it, the greater the reaction was always going to be to their eventual landing of it. And after 30 years of failure, you can be sure we'll never hear the end of it. Not just through the summer, but over the next decade. Those playing it down on here are kidding themselves. The people who say 'it;'s best to get it over with' or 'I wont give a toss, I'm just concentrating on Everton'. That's a fairy story you're telling yourself, I'm afraid.
