ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

There was a serious amount of fireworks set off outside the ground roundabout 10 minutes after kick off.
I watched the game on an American stream and you could certainly hear them. The commentators did actually
mention it. I'm told so did Martin Tyler on SKY. The fireworks didn't let themselves off - thats for sure.

Martin won't have a bad word said against his Liverpool, must have been Man Cities fans letting off the fireworks, # Never our fault...:)

I disagree. I see Chelsea and City as the teams to beat.

VAR: the whole point of VAR is not accuracy - of course it isn't, we can all see that now. The point of VAR was always to do with spectacle: making talking points and generating controversy and tweaking passions and expectations IN PACKED STADIUMS. It was an industry innovation for that purpose and no other.

It makes no sense to do that (on the regular basis it has been) in stadiums without fans in them...or even ones with massively reduced capacity - as it will be at best from September. In a sterile environment like that it serves no function.

the point of VAR was to fix games, which it did. It dumped City and PSG out of the champions league and it had the title sowed up for Liverpool by October. When you can watch Van Dijk take out Calvert Lewin from behind in the box and it doesn’t even go to VAR it’s clear what the agenda is. It will ensure United make top 4 this season also at the expense of Leicester before the season finishes.

They are lacking truly great players to form a proper dynasty. Mane, Salah ladytramp are good but aren't a patch on your Rooneys, Henry, cr7, Aguero as taslimanic players that can win games single handedly. And they have nothing of the quality that city have in the middle of the park would argue that KDB, Silva, Foden, Fernandinho, Bernardo and Rodri are all better options then the headless chooks

They are also in a league with way too many potential challengers. Back in the day, United were mince, City were, Arsenal were until 1989, Spurs & Chelsea were no where.

The teams they competed with were varied. QPR, Ipswich, Villa, Forest, even us, and never hung around for long, (sometimes nothing to with their quality, y'know).

Different days.

They have won the league, nothing to play for.

City have the champions league to aim for so switched on.

Anyone with half a brain would have seen an easy win tonight for City.

Are you saying that there was absolutely no pride in the RS team? Not playing to win? Couldn't be bothered. Professional sportsmen at the peak of fitness?

I don't buy it. They were malleted last night, and it could have been more.

What we have seen in recent results (the defeats, and the draw against us) is what happened last season, when they blew up in the second half of the season.

What we did NOT see last season was certain VAR decisions going in their favour.

I don't believe they will have the same first of the season next season that they had this season. Without that, I very much doubt that they will top the league again...

I think you need also to factor in how lack of spectators will affect the way a game is officiated. If you stand in the middle of a packed Anfield and a decision has to be made, the official doesn't anger the crowd. An empty stadium is a different kettle of fish. Unless VAR want to intervene and call all the ref's decisions for 90 minutes the changed environment will have a big impact. How could it not?

Is it all just an act then?

Suppose it doesnt matter hes a grade A blurt either way

Haha, fair one. Its hard to tell to be honest, there's similarly earnest antics posted online and flagged in the 'full kit' thread.
That's the sign of good parody, your never sure if it's real or not.

He is 100% playing a character but he is also one of them so feel free to take the clown apart

Didn’t stop VAR completely ignoring the penalty City should have had at the pit, as the RS went straight up the other end and scored. They ALL bottled that one.

I see the RS Chief of Merseyside Police, Andy Cooke, is saying he couldn’t have done anything differently (Pontius Pilate comes to mind) as he would have needed 5,000 Police to have stopped or dispersed the crowds at the Pier Head And only has 3,700. He was responding to criticism from the Liverpool Mayor and stated that only he is responsible for Police Operations. Well, as he is responsible, can he explain the total lack of Police at this gathering which led to his own officers being attacked later that night.

As a bit of a competition, how many of his 3,700 Hi Viz coppers can you spot in this picture ?.....answers on a postcard....

I think Mourinho's words were hilarious, but very pertinent: 'The referee is in the office.' There is more than a grain of truth in that...
