ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

He’s talked about as one of the greatest midfield players of all time. He wasn’t even the best in that England team, and it’s arguable whether Alonso wasn’t better than him in that Liverpool team. When he was at his peak he would win a match singlehandedly but then disappear in the next game which is one of the reasons why he didn’t win a league.

He was obviously a very very good player but some people pundits put him in their greatest 11s of all time. That for me is overrating him.
The definition of a flat track bully.

Very good player. Never a great player.

Lauded by the media because he was the prototype premier League English player. Technically decent while still maintaining the typical british characteristics of run all day, never say die attitude and kick a ball dead hard.

Funnily enough, he'd be perfect for their current team of duracell rabbits.

Said it for the last 2 months on here: worst Liverpool team for the last 4 seasons. The Liverpool team of 2018/19 (when this lot were at their peak) would have demolished an outfit like Newcastle.

I have no idea if they snide this season's title or not, but what i do know is that Klopp's Liverpool are finished. Just in the same way everyone knew SAF's last title team were unravelling and a couple of season past peak (not that I'm comparing those great United teams with Klopps kick and rush divvies).

.
I said it continually last season Liverpool aren't actually that good, when you compare them to the great Arsenal, United, Chelsea and City sides of the past. Henry was miles better than Mane is now, Rooney and Aguero were far better than Firmino, Viera, Essien, Toure and Scholes were far better than Henderson. VAR helped them out last season, plus teams just let them walk all over them. What's bizarre about Liverpool's success is with the exception of Dick Van Dyke, they pretty much have a similar team to when he came in, it seems their form came out of nowhere.

He had a good 2 or 3 years maybe, average for the rest of his career. But Alonso was a far better player as you pointed out and to dredge up a tired old debate, he wasn't fit to lace Lampard's boots

i can’t wait for the rest of the world to see klopp for what we’ve all seen him as for years - a classless, gurning, cry baby at the first sign of anything not going his way.
Because they won so many games the last couple of seasons he has this image of a top guy, smiling, hugging, advertising pints but his mask has been slipping the last few weeks as they’re getting caught...

I think the team are pretty much the same level but they aren't getting the dubious calls that they used to, that is affecting confidence a touch and buoying top the opposition a bit. There's more to come, another injury or two, a couple off spawn results against them and their heads will go. And we will laugh, loudly, very loudly.

Last 2 season they dived and I mean dived to win at Newcastle,

Disgusting victim cult of a club, 1 win in 7 away from home. They are still a very good team but they are coming out of form and city are massively init, be interesting to see what happens over the next few weeks with them 2
