ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

Liverpool needed the Euro super league - that's why Henry was THE driving force behind it.

There's no way they'll be spending what's required to get on top of their rebuilding; the CL cash is what - €15M to reach the Group Stage and market pool cash = €30M?

It's worth around 100 million to the finalists and winners. Then throw in the matchday revenues and deals with sponsors which some might pay more with CL.

They won't be spending much anyway, but if they didn't qualify for next season they were screwed.

Unfortunately the English teams will be favourites for the CL next season. Madrid and Barca are a shambles. Bayern are in decline and Nagelsmann is a poor hire. Inter are the only Italian side worth a passing glance. PSG will be the only continental threat to deal with. Liverpool will be up there with City and Chelsea as favourites.
Bayern are 2nd favourite

Of course they won 8 out their last ten games. Went from relegation form to title winning form with two academy kids at the back. Only that lot.

I mean these academy kids are 24 and 20, so the same sort of age as Godfrey and Holgate.

They blew hot at the back end, but won nothing and ended the season miles behind a City team who were on the beach weeks ago.

City are miles ahead of the rest of the league. Liverpool with the 3rd highest wage bill in world football are still a decent outfit though and blew hot at the back end.

Liverpool were dumped out of the CL by the worst Madrid team in a decade or more.

Anyone on the continent looking at the likely winners of next seasions CL wouldn't see Liverpool as any sort of threat at all. That's the reality of it.

They’ll be better next season, in no small part down to Klopp’s juicing programme (an early onset of which may even account for 8 out of 10 wins on the back straight when they were blowing out their arses in January and couldn’t score a goal). Add in the crowd factor and they’re massive threats.

That's a falacy.

If its juicing, why did he stop juicing half way through?

The reality is, he has the 3rd highest wage bill in world football. So of course they will be a contender.

I expected a bit of a bounce from them, and they got a bit of luck, but they were probably a bit unlucky in their down spell. It's clear to see they will be a way off City who have fantastic younger players emerging, while Liverpool are increasingly left paying guys at or about 30.

Chelsea under Tuchel are tracking about 80 points a season, City will be stronger next year. They are presently competing with United for 3rd, and hoping Leicester dont keep getting better.

I mean it's not a bad place to be, but for a club with the 3rd biggest wage bill in world football- it's pretty underwhelming.

What crowd factor? The one where Atletico Madrid bounced them out?

It's a complete myth. It will aid clubs who are at the bottom end of the league more. Clubs have gone to Anfield and got results, they will be mentally more shaken than at any time in Klopps tenure.

Is there any qualitative evidence they need fans back? Like I can show you our home v away record, and you can see in terms of numbers it has made a difference. Their home record is not any worse than their away record this season. They havent struggled anymore at Anfield than elsewhere. Sides have just worked them out a bit.

They cycled off. There was even an article predicting their demise before the season started. From the halfway point of 17/18 they had 24 months of unbelievable form concluding with them wrapping up the premier league. From about the March of that season though they went from barely dropping a point for two seasons to suddenly losing to Watford City Arsenal and drawing with us Burnley. They then went into this season never looking like themselves up until approximately 12 months on from when their bad form started and they’ve suddenly gone straight back to title winning form with 8 wins in 10. This 12 month stretch after two years of dominance is suspiciously like the 12 months City had last season before roaring back all of a sudden this season to dominate without even needing a striker. All those players who weren’t very good last year suddenly now the best in the league again.

I reckon Klopp knew the title was in the bag last season so stopped to give the players a year off thinking he could restart and they might still be in the CL and have another chance of winning it.

Mark my words, they’ll be right back next season to massive long winning streaks, barely dropping points, and all these players who have looked awful this season will suddenly all be world class again.
