ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

I was there and remember that game very much mate. For whatever reason Newcastle split up our fans and some ended up in one corner and some in another corner at the other end of the ground and loads were getting chucked out by the Geordie police just for singing, shouting or even standing up. I recall the Echo making a big thing of how Blues were treated that day.
The echo did to be fair . I was only 15 remember getting battered by plod when the 4th went in and we tried to leave the ground

As far as I'm aware, at Lille we never:

Had 1000's with fake tickets
Rushed turnstiles to get in
Climbed fences to get in
Robbed our own fans
Fought our own fans
Fought opposition fans

If I'm mistaken, and Everton fans did do all of that at Lille. Then yes, we should have got a punishment

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the mayor of Lille apologise to our fans after that game?

Desecrated 29 May and hid behind Hillsborough to excuse another riot on the same day.

The world knows what they are.

The state backed propaganda arm did its job. As I said all parties were to blame but Liverpool once again weaponised the media to turn this into an either or situation. Uefa have now come out looking like they’ll accept their share of the wrongdoing and no doubt the French government will apologise at some point for the policing, but one accountable party as usual won’t accept a shred of responsibility and will see this as yet another ‘win’ in their long line of playing the victim and screaming about hillsborough every time they misbehave

Despite the apology, I think that UEFA Independent Review when it concludes will hand down some very stringent guidlelines for future final events.

They'll be looking to make sure the Kopite practice of storming a stadium's perimeter will be countered by a series of checkpoints: starting at the airport and ports and allowing in only ticket holders.

That's been the cause of this whole calamity - as it was in their last few finals.

And I can see fanzones bewing miles away from any stadium and a series of fan traffic flow calming measures well before the stadium.

If Paris acieives nothing it will hopefully clip the wings of the Kopite blag culture that's taken and threatened lives for decades.

I think UEFA will want a lot of co-operation from LFC when this report is published.

I dont think this is a climbdown - it's the French Government that made all the running and I dont see them budging. But UEFA will get their way out of this review. They know what Liverpool's fans are and they anticipate more major problems with them again. They'll want to be polite now and then carry a big draconian stick in the future. Yes they'll want the host city to coin it in and they'll take their pound of flesh too, but they know they were again a whisker away from another stadium disaster with Liverpool and that would have cratered the whole commercial side of the game for a decade or more.

Not sure how feasible that is dave - to cordon off city-centre grounds like that will require thousands of cops / stewards to man the barricades and non-match going people will still be let through them anyway (residents, people visiting local businesses etc).

This only gets solved with bans for the club (from European competition).
