Tbh what will likely happen is they fall away massively but in doing so massive media scrutiny is instead placed on City and subsequently Newcastle, rather than on the failings of Klopp and his team.
I guarantee that if they have a bad season the narrative will shift to City’s financial doping rather than focus on their team. This is what happened after the CL final. No focus on how Klopp was tactically outclassed by Carlo, no analysis of their workman midfield being outplayed by Modric and Kroos, the display of Benzema and Vinicius, nothing about the world’s best centre half and right back looking like defensive donkeys, nothing about how Madrid carved them open with one move whereas they couldn’t craft a thing. It was all about the ticketing and policing problems. Which is fine to cover, but some actual football analysis would have been nice.
The media adores Liverpool this is certain. But I think we have to acknowledge that for the “product” things may still go in their favour. Unless Chelsea step up, possibly United and Spurs but it’s unlikely, if that lot fall away the media and Sky will be faced with the prospect of trying to sell a slightly better version of Ligue Une as City stroll to their ninth title. Sky will not want that to happen.
